Senior Software Engineer Team Lead (Golang + Ruby)

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer Team Lead experienced with mission-critical applications to help with the continued growth of the DigitalOcean cloud. As that engineer, you will think about how to present complex cloud infrastructure as simple information for our internal audiences. You will be working alongside Product and Design teams, and reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager in Customer Experience. You will decide how to build software that provides long-term scalability as Digital Ocean continues to grow our portfolio and customer base. You will also work within the broader engineering organization to improve the efficiency and performance of internal systems so that we can support our growing customer base.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Work with Staff Architect to design and implement solutions for internal support experiences.
- Collaborate with other teams within Digital Ocean to design solutions to internal business problems.
- Drive technical leadership on the internal tools team, including installing and leading enterprise best practices and driving higher levels of simplicity and elegance.
- Distill product requirements into functional user stories that can be developed, tested and deployed.
- Code internal services and tools for the scalable enterprise, leveraging designs from architecture teams and driving through testing and deployment.
- Mentor other developers and guide technical development paths.
- Take part in an on-call rotation every 4+ weeks.
What We’ll Expect From You:
- Language: Demonstrated ability to produce production-ready code in Go (or similar modern, performant language and stack) at a company of similar size and complexity. Familiarity with Ruby will be required for migration and maintenance conversations.
- Experience, energy and leadership to move this team to the next level of enterprise scalability and performance.
- A focus on customer satisfaction for the diverse internal community that depends on our tools.
- Deployments: Experience with containerized applications in Docker within a CI/CD environment using GOCD, Concourse, or similar platform.
- Design & architecture: Expert working within a microservice architecture, with knowledge of both asynchronous, event-driven processing, and synchronous GRPC/HTTP based requests.
- Domain experience: hands-on experience with IaaS- and PaaS-based solutions and an understanding of running software in Kubernetes clusters across load balancers.
- Operational expertise: Knowledge of and ability to use Kibana and Grafana for monitoring, alerting, and troubleshooting (or similar tools).
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a remote-first culture.
