Reimagine the infrastructure of cancer care within a technology and science community that values integrity, inspires growth, and is uniquely positioned to create a more modern, connected oncology ecosystem.
We're looking for a senior engineer who is passionate about platforms and tooling to enable reliability across core systems that enable clinical care. Flatiron's mission is to improve and extend lives by learning from the experience of every person with cancer and having stable and reliable systems is critical to being a changemaker in cancer care.
What You'll Do
Our team is building a disruptive, oncology-specific software platform that connects cancer centers across the world on a common technology infrastructure to address key healthcare challenges.
Today, the Flatiron Health OncologyCloud™ platform includes the industry-leading electronic medical record for oncology (OncoEMR), a first-of-its-kind analytics tool, a patient portal, and a suite of interoperable APIs. We are looking for an expert in system observability and applications to uplevel how we monitor and respond to incidents throughout our system with modern tooling. In addition, you will:

  • Define and enforce parameters of normal system operational health
  • Refine existing tooling and introduce new tooling for proactively detecting and responding to abnormalities
  • Determine remediation for infrastructure failures with minimal customer impact
  • Perform root cause analysis for infrastructure level failures and work to prioritize remediations across the organization
  • Continuously improve visibility into system operational health for both internal and external stakeholders
  • Drive team ownership on resilience and observability as our system transforms from a monolith into service oriented architecture
  • Mentor engineers across enabling and stream-aligned teams on building and maintaining observable systems
  • Manage a team of 2 to 4 SREs
  • Act as player-coach and champion engineering standards

Flatiron engineers work day-to-day with oncologists, product leaders, and data experts. In this role you'll have a chance to expand your communication skills and have mentorship outside of engineering.
Who You Are

  • You are an experienced engineer with 5+ years of experience with an emphasis on system level observability. You're excited by the prospect of rolling up your sleeves to tackle meaningful problems each and everyday.
  • You are a kind, passionate, and collaborative problem-solver who seeks and gives candid feedback, and values the chance to make an important impact.
  • You are experienced with building and operating observable and reliable systems
  • You are experienced with defining and measuring system health, and in working with stream aligned teams to ensure SLOs are met
  • You are experienced in working with Splunk or other logging frameworks
  • You are experience with Datadog or other application performance monitoring
  • You are experienced with notification management and team attribution
  • You are experienced working in a Windows stack
  • You are experienced negotiating with nontechnical stakeholders and driving business value with technical solutions
  • You are a strong, transparent communicator
  • You seek simple approaches to complex solutions
