Warner Bros. Discovery's digital arm, Global Customer eXperience (GCX) org is a high-performing global team working at the dynamic intersection of Technology and Entertainment. In supporting our content creators in the digital space, we continuously leverage our technological capabilities to create immersive viewing experiences for iconic brands - DiscoveryPlus and HBO.
We are excited to be recruiting a Senior Software Development Manager (III) to join our Android team.
Your Role Accountabilities...
As a Software Development Manager III, you will work in collaboration with the Design creators, Product team and Program Managers, and help prioritize new features, bug fixes and technical debt within the team you would be managing. This is a great opportunity to drive key initiatives, build a high-performance culture, enabling a team of 6-9 geographically dispersed Engineers to deliver critical projects and new app architecture. This is a partially hands-on role, and ideally, you should be able to dedicate 30 to 50% of your time to drive design and architectural decisions that impact the Android platform apps (Android mobile, Android TV and Amazon's Fire family), while spending the other 50% with project execution, hiring and people development/management.
The successful candidate will have a motivating attitude, excellent leadership skills, establish a strong collaborative culture and a strong ability to drive excellence in both current team members as well as future hires. Building strong teams is a vitally important aspect of the role, so you'll be heavily involved in execution of many important initiatives and personal development of Engineers.
Qualifications & Experience...

  • Prior Android development experience is desirable, but not required
  • At least 3 years of frontend development experience (Web or Mobile)
  • At least 5 years of experience in a tech leadership role, with at least 2 years of those in a people management role. Experienced and capable of playing a leading role to design and drive major functional changes to existing software systems, or new ones
  • Excellent communication skills, understanding of developers' needs and priorities.
  • Technical awareness and prior experience of shipping Android applications (Kotlin) is desired
  • Experience in balancing speed vs. quality in software engineering teams.
  • You love to build testable, scalable and resilient products.
  • Responsible for the team's performance against agreed objectives and goals.
  • Manage, plan and organize team resources to satisfy output requirements for projects, change requests and support.
  • Recommend technical developments and software to enhance/improve our app.
  • Desire to be involved in cross-platform projects on a large scale in 10+ countries.
  • Working with multiple stakeholders (internal and external partners) with different goals, objectives and aspirations. Effective communication and strong negotiation skills will be key.
  • Knowledge of key design and architectural patterns such as MVVM, MVP and SOLID principles
  • Experience and knowledge of TDD and associated frameworks (Junit, Espresso, Mockito) is desirable
  • Experience building dynamic customer-facing apps that use RESTful APIs to operate
  • Experience building modular apps, or migrating a monolithic app to a modular architecture
  • Knowledge of development best practices, including coding guidelines
  • Knowledge of or previous experience with VOD is a plus, including experience working with video playback on Android apps

The Legal Bits...
In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles in locations where legally required. $172,550.00 - $320,450.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros.
