About the role:
Collaborates with stakeholders within the team to build and maintain backend services and solutions to support user-facing products, downstream services, or infrastructure tools and platforms used across Uber.
About the Team:

  • Uber Ads' vision is to connect our platform's users (eaters, riders and earners) with businesses in the most relevant, engaging, useful and delightful ways.
  • Uber Advertising was bootstrapped in 2020 and is on track to attain $1B in ad revenue by 2024.
  • The Ad Verticals Engineering group is responsible for building Uber's various ad offerings (https://www.uber.com/us/en/advertising/)

Role:
As a Software Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, building and scaling some of Uber's ad offerings.
Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field OR 1-year full-time Software Engineering work experience, WHICH INCLUDES 1-year total technical software engineering experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Programming language (e.g. C, C++, Java, Python, or Go)
  • Note the 1-year total of specialized software engineering experience may have been gained through education and full-time work experience, additional training, coursework, research, or similar (OR some combination of these). The year of specialized experience is not necessarily in addition to the years of Education & full-time work experience indicated.

Technical skills:
Preferred:

  • Scalability engineering
  • Distributed systems

What the Candidate Will Need:

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend systems and services
  • Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to the development of engineering best practices
  • Debug and troubleshoot complex issues across multiple systems
  • Collaborate with other teams to identify and resolve system bottlenecks
  • Ensure that systems are secure and data is protected
  • Stay up-to-date with new technologies and methodologies related to backend development

  • 3+ years of experience in software development with a focus on backend systems
  • Strong experience with Java, Go, or a similar programming language
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to the development of engineering best practices

  • Ensure that systems are secure and data is protected
  • Debug and troubleshoot complex issues across multiple systems

Offices continue to be central to collaboration and Uber's cultural identity. For New York, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is $149,000 per year - $165,500 per year. For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is $149,000 per year - $165,500 per year. For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is $149,000 per year - $165,500 per year. For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
