Job Description
ABOUT THE ROLE:
NBC Universal has an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to become the Sr. Engineer, Web/Middleware (Microsoft Platform) of Media Infrastructure Technology with a specific focus on support of the Media Technology and Infrastructure Division for NBCU Operations and Technology (O&T). O&T supports Enterprise Technology, Broadcast and Production systems across the NBCU portfolio globally.
The Sr. Engineer for Web/Middleware will partner with NBCU resources on technology strategy, day to day operations and platform support, long range initiatives planning, collaboration with cross-functional business leaders and partners, and management of a dynamic team providing "best in class" support for our NBCU Media local stations.
Areas of Responsibility

  • Subject matter expert in web and middleware technologies
  • Design highly available, scalable, secured, distributed web and middleware hosting solutions
  • Collaborate with application teams to establish CI/CD orchestration pipelines
  • Assist project teams in scoping, design, and project work estimations
  • Identify issues and project business requirements and develop solutions to them
  • Oversee the technical quality of the team's solutions delivery; describe architecture decisions and rationales at a detailed level to both client and internal teams
  • Oversee continuous improvement initiatives and work with other technical leads to define and maintain compliance with organizational standards
  • Oversee the team's response to incidents and service requests; identify areas of optimization and lead efforts to implement them
  • Collaborate with Cyber Security and identify solutions for remediation of vulnerabilities in the web and middleware infrastructure
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Monitoring to implement monitoring and alerting for web and middleware technologies
  • Participate in 24/7 support by acting as an escalation point for any production issues
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to team


REQUIREMENTS:
Skill Sets

  • Advanced technical expertise in:
    • Internet Information Services (IIS)
    • JBoss Enterprise Application Platform
    • Tomcat
    • Apache Web Server
  • Intermediate technical expertise in:
    • Automation tooling (Ansible, PowerShell, shell scripting)
    • Git
    • Loadbalancing
    • Public Key Infrastructure
    • Single-Sign On tooling
    • Web application firewalls
    • CI/CD pipeline tooling
    • Secrets management
  • Significant experience in:
    • Facilitating and participating in architectural reviews with technical and non-technical stakeholders
    • Adapting on-premise designs to public cloud capabilities
    • Developing, documenting, and maintaining technical standards
    • Collaborative solutions development


Desired Characteristics

  • Work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences in written and non-written formats
  • Work with code to bring advancement of continuous integration/deployments
  • A fan of automation with the ability to bring additional knowledge around this topic to our team
  • ServiceNow experience is a plus
  • Understanding of Windows and Linux update processes & impact on systems
  • Demonstrated cloud computing experience supporting Windows and Linux systems on AWS or Azure. AWS certification strongly preferred
  • Experience with Java Virtual Machine (JVM) monitoring, tuning, and troubleshooting
  • Understanding of database configuration from a web server point of view
  • Knowledge of the OS : Linux, Windows Server
  • Knowledge of SAN and NAS storage
  • Skilled at making decisions and problem solving
  • Ability to communicate with external customers in the resolution of support issues


Qualifications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.S. degree in Information Technology, Business Administration or other technical discipline
  • At least 5 years' experience in the Web/Middleware space
  • Must be willing to work in Universal City, CA, Englewood Cliffs, NJ, Denver, CO, London, UK
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the US
  • Must be willing to work evenings, overnights, weekends , holidays with little or/no notice
