The Role

This position involves critical duties and responsibilities that must continue to be performed during crisis situations and contingency operations, which may necessitate extended hours of work. In this position, your responsibility will include system design, configuration, deployment, documentation, and operations of Addepar’s Infrastructure Platform Engineering systems and tools.

As a Cloud Engineer and member of the Infrastructure Platform Production Engineering team, you will be responsible for the hands-on implementation of Addepar’s platform infrastructure components, deployment tools, and cloud hosting SaaS partners.  In this position, we're looking for Engineers with expertise and passion in solving difficult problems in distributed systems, cloud native technologies, and highly available services. 

What You’ll Do

  • Responsible for the overall health and performance of the Addepar platform.
  • Working in tandem with DevOps and Infrastructure Platform teams to identify and implement the most optimal cloud-based solutions for our company.
  • You should know standard security practices and also be able to identify any potential application-specific vulnerabilities.
  • Define and document best practices and strategies regarding application deployment and infrastructure maintenance in a public cloud.
  • Ensure application performance, uptime, and scale, maintaining high standards of code quality and thoughtful design.
  • Managing cloud environments in accordance with company security guidelines.
  • Develop and implement technical efforts to design, build and deploy AWS applications at the directions of lead architects and product owners.
  • Trouble-shoot incidents, identify root cause, fix and document problems, and implement preventative measures.
  • Work with engineering and operations teams to enhance, document, establish processes and generally improve the operability and security of our systems.
  • As a Platform Engineer, you will be expected to mentor more junior engineers as well as serve as a contributor to the engineering culture of the Infrastructure Platform Operations team.   

Who You Are

  • 8 - 10+ years design/implementation/consulting experience of distributed applications.
  • The breadth of expertise across the Enterprise IT in multiple of the following areas: Software design or development; Infrastructure Architecture; Content distribution; Database Architecture or administration.
  • BA/BS degree or equivalent experience; Computer Science or Engineering background preferred.
  • Experience working directly with customers both internally and externally, driving discussions with senior personnel regarding 
  • Demonstrated experience with software development life cycle (SDLC) and agile methodologies required.
  • Experience with technology compliance and risk management requirements (eg. security, privacy, SOX SOC2 ect)
  • Experience leading the design, development, deployment and full life cycle operations of business software at scale or hands-on experience cloud agnostic technologies, services, networks, compute, storage and applications.  
  • You work on a team that owns the design, development, and operations for major components of public Cloud Infrastructures.
  • 8+ years of experience building and maintaining internet-facing application environments.
  • Cloud environment fundamentals (we use AWS)
  • Demonstrable experience with the entire life cycle of software, starting with Systems Architecture, Systems Design, and Implementation- and then maintenance and operation.
  • Broad and deep experience with any applied aspect of UNIX/BSD/Linux internals. (we use Ubuntu)
  • Demonstrable experience writing systems automation tooling, (open-source code to discuss, good/bad/ugly, is a plus).
  • Familiarity with managed Kubernetes services like Amazon Kubernetes Service (EKS)
  • Have experience with deployment automation with tools such as Docker, Ansible, bash, python
  • Internet Networking fundamentals, IPv4, (AWS vpc a plus)
  • Securable Systems and Programming practices.
  • Programming/Scripting in various common languages, (we use python [boto3], shell, and general UNIX tools)
  • Programming experience using and writing HTTP Service API’s and data exchange protocols (we use JSON)
  • Exposure to industry practices in financial services is a plus.
