About the Role
Uber is seeking a Staff Security Engineer to join our Application Security team. As a member of our team you will help us scale the traditional AppSec model of finding vulnerabilities manually to a fully automated and autonomous system.
In this role, you will regularly perform gap analysis, identify new opportunities to introduce automation, then design, build and deploy bespoke automation to facilitate the automatic discovery, remediation, and regression testing of common security vulnerabilities in Uber's apps and services. You'll also work on developing multi-year roadmaps to tackle complex security problems requiring large architectural product or infrastructure changes, identifying and integrating with high-quality, security-vendor products to shorten the time-to-market w.r.t. delivering specific security capabilities to engineering at large. Further, you'll frequently work with product teams throughout the company to close known security vulnerabilities en masse.
As a Staff Security Engineer on the AppSec team, you'll heavily use both your SWE skills and Security expertise. You'll frequently partner with other Senior & Staff-level engineers across the company to raise the security bar across all of Uber's products and services. Finally, you'll mentor junior engineers to round out the next generation of top Security experts in the field.
What You'll Do

  • Develop multi-year roadmaps to solve complex security challenges company wide.
  • Design, build and deploy automation to scale the discovery of security bugs across all company apps and services.
  • Identify novel attacks and security weaknesses in company-owned assets; automate their discovery using state-of-the-art techniques, methods, and tools.
  • Provide security guidance to application and service owners to remediate known security vulnerabilities.
  • Mentor junior engineers.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or Mathematics.
  • Programming skills in at least one of: Go, Java, Python, NodeJS, etc.
  • 8+ years of experience in at least one security domain: web security, mobile security, cloud security, systems security, program analysis, or reverse engineering.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or PhD in Computer Science,, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or Mathematics with a focus on Security.
  • Expertise developing and driving complex, multi-year project roadmaps to address company-wide security challenges.
  • Expertise designing, implementing, and deploying production-quality systems.
  • Expertise in multiple security domains

For New York, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is $216,000 per year - $240,000 per year.For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is $216,000 per year - $240,000 per year.For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is $216,000 per year - $240,000 per year.For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is $216,000 per year - $240,000 per year.For Washington, DC-based roles: The base salary range for this role is $216,000 per year - $240,000 per year.For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp.
