Staff Software Engineer (Backend), Product Engineering
The Opportunity
At Peloton, we power experiences across a multitude of member experiences across Bike, Tread, Mobile, Web, TV and beyond, across the world. Through world class engineering, we help users take live/on demand classes, compete on the leaderboard, engage users through challenges, help members discover music, and much more.
The Role
We are looking for collaborative, staff engineers who have experience operating at scale, both with respect to technical scale and organization scale. You will help Peloton craft its scalability story, how we think about long term architecture, influence Product Cloud’s engineering culture, and work across all engineering organizations within Peloton to deliver world class products. You have seen your fair share of scaling challenges, want to do the right thing for our members, and ultimately believe that servant leadership is the ideal leadership model.
You are someone who thinks about simplicity and works to provide solutions that reduce the complexity across services. You are team-focused and prioritize collective learning in addition to solving problems. You build collective ownership amongst the team by contributing to code reviews, designs, whiteboarding, and leading discussions. Finally, you ask the right questions that challenge, elevate, and make Peloton engineering better.
Expectations
In your first weeks, you’ll learn about Peloton Cloud and start to familiarize yourself with some of the challenges that we are facing. You'll contribute to our existing efforts to build a service-oriented architecture and split out services from a monolithic application. You’ll aid us in our thinking around international and cross-DC strategy. You’ll help us think through scalable build time sensitive pipelines which act as the core of the Peloton workout experience.
In the following months, you'll start contributing to major features and evaluate how they can fit into a service-oriented architecture. You'll help make the tough decisions around migrating code and databases, and transition traffic from our monolith to our new services and ensure their success. Finally, you'll help educate new team members and promote ways to improve quality across all our services at scale.
