Tech Lead, DevOps
U.S. healthcare is frustrating and deeply flawed. Cedar's mission is to drive better outcomes for everyone involved, including providers, insurance companies and the people they serve. At a time when consumer-friendly healthcare experiences are more critical than ever, our platform is uniquely equipped to solve problems that lead to billing issues and administrative waste. At Cedar, know that your work will have a meaningful impact on people's lives.
The Role
The Platform pillar is tasked with building, delivering, and maintaining the technology platforms that Cedar builds its business on. In a company that moves fast with an ever-growing application and client base, we love tackling big challenges and finding creative solutions for them. Our DevOps squad is a team of seasoned professionals responsible for the care and feeding of our infrastructure; using infrastructure as code, imaginative automation, and industry-standard best practices to orchestrate our complex product suite and seek out new opportunities for efficiency.
We are looking for a thoughtful and experienced DevOps Tech Lead to help us level up the Cedar application infrastructure, internal tools, and development environments. They will lead hands-on work across diverse responsibilities ranging from problem-solving, system and feature design, making designs into action plans, and staff mentoring. The Tech Lead also plays a key role in partnering with other Engineering leads to evolve our long-term technical strategy and guide the team through the realization of these solutions. This individual will work closely with other specialists across the organization, so excellent communication skills and a collaborative mentality are crucial. This is a technical leadership position that does not include people management in its current scoping, though there is longer-term potential for this.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical direction and mentorship to a squad of engineers within DevOps who impact Cedar's suite of products
- Manage the team's backlog and advocate for technical initiatives.
- Take a leadership role in multiple simultaneous high-impact projects, including facilitating design discussions, breaking down plans into work items, and mentor team members
- Architect, build, and maintain tools for a self-service infrastructure that improves developer efficiency and code reliability
- Help scale and solidify Cedar's production application infrastructure while improving monitoring and application performance management
- Communicate clearly in verbal and written forms, from peer training to design documents
- Maintain a culture that adheres to Cedar's values of focusing on our vision, using good judgment, staying positive, and disallowing mediocrity
Required Skills & Experience
- 6+ years of DevOps, infrastructure, or site reliability experience
- Experience with technical leadership over a team of DevOps engineers
- Demonstrated competence deploying applications/tools into production cloud environments with configuration management tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Chef and/or Puppet
- Expertise with AWS services such as ECS, RDS, and S3
- Managed Linux systems and containers (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)
- Scripting or programming skills (Bash, Python, Go, Ruby, etc.)
- Solid understanding of infrastructure security (https, SSH, 2FA, etc.) and modern networking for private cloud and public Internet services
- Familiarity with database performance management
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
