Through our suite of cloud-based diligence, portfolio monitoring, and reporting solutions, we help institutional investment professionals integrate, organize, and make use of all relevant data for unparalleled transparency on private companies and investments.

Our clients include many of the world’s largest and most sophisticated venture capital, private equity, and credit funds to the tune of over $500 billion of AUM managed via our solution suite. We are backed by The Carlyle Group and Nasdaq, Inc. and are fortunate to have seen rapid and nonstop growth since our founding in 2016. As we continue to grow our organization, we are seeking highly motivated colleagues to join our collaborative and engaged team culture that is mission-driven and excited about the technology we’re building.

The Opportunity

Bring your expertise to a rapidly growing team led by experienced technical founders with a market-leading technology product suite. We are searching for a Technical Lead for our Backend & Data Engineering practice who play a key role on our Engineering team as we continue to scale. We are seeking a colleague who is excited about programming and building day-to-day, while also helping steer and refine a technical vision for all things database, API, and data-architecture related.

We are continuing to grow quickly in size and sophistication and have a need for experts who love databases and the puzzles posed by moving data through complex workflows with humans in the loop. Our systems help manage many types of data, including raw data files and models, structured information extracted from those records, internal application data that captures the decisions and interactions of our users, business operations data, and predictions generated by machine learning models.

As a Data Engineer, you will play a critical role at the nexus of our fullstack engineering, machine learning, and analytics efforts and be responsible for helping design and implement systems and features across Chronograph’s suite of products, with a focus on scalable and performant backend architecture. As a leader of this effort, you will reinforce and contribute to our key team tenants of continuous learning, knowledge sharing, mentorship, personal development, and process refinement. You should care about software design and have built modern architectures at scale, including experience encouraging the adoption of best practices.

As Technical Lead of our Data Engineer efforts, you will:

  • Architect and build new infrastructure to support delivery of microservices
  • Architect and build new data infrastructure to serve low latency machine learning predictions
  • Dive deep into use cases to understand the needs of internal and external consumers of data and interface requirements
  • Build the relational/non-relational structure, caching, access control, monitoring, and governance mechanisms to address identified use cases
  • Collaborate closely across the organization to build and refine processes to ensure efficient growth into the future
  • Help continue to build a world-class Engineering team team, shaping both technical direction and team composition as we scale
  • Help attract, interview, and onboard your future team members during this exciting time of growth

You will be successful in this role if you have:

  • Six (6) to eight (8) years of professional developer experience
  • A passion for maintainable, readable, stable, secure, tested, and scalable code
  • Proven experience architecting and developing SaaS applications; extra points for finance-oriented or enterprise solutions
  • Extensive experience with API development and management, AWS services, and progressive backend technologies in general
  • Substantial familiarity with data engineering concepts, including pipelines, warehouses, governance, auditability, and related technologies like Snowflake, Redshift, Kinesis, etc.
  • Strong experience with schema design, including with relational (e.g. PostgreSQL) and non-relational data stores
  • Understanding of progressive architecture patterns, including microservices, event-driven applications, and distributed systems
  • Knowledge of and experience with Node.js GraphQL, and other modern JS tools and paradigms desirable; experience with web frameworks (e.g. Rails) helpful but not required
  • Tangential or direct experience with production-quality machine learning implementations and/or data pipelines to enable is highly desirable
  • Strong communication, planning, and project management skills (i.e., ability to effectively prioritize, lay out important design decisions, and oversee major features/enhancements to completion)
  • Ability to work both individually and collaboratively to deliver results in a fast-paced startup environment
  • Positive attitude, sense of humor and creativity
  • Great joy and pride in being a Data Engineer and technical leader
