Working directly with the country’s largest beverage alcohol distributors, SevenFifty’s Technical Lead, Web Development will work on the SaaS platform that helps our customers embrace innovation. Our newest colleague will join a tight-knit group of folks who crave ownership and change rather than rigid structure and micromanagement.

If you love technology, the beverage industry, and lots of autonomy, this role is for you.

This person can be located in the New York area or throughout the United States (working remotely) and they will report to our Engineering Manager, Web & Mobile.

We're looking for an experienced full-stack developer to join our 15-person engineering team and lead development for a small squad. The squad you’ll be joining is currently two other engineers and a project manager working with stakeholders across the business, and a cross-team designer as needed. They work in two related Rails apps, with a combination of classic server-rendered Rails functionality, and React components on top of Rails. We use Solr for search, Postgres on Amazon RDS for data, and run our web apps on Heroku.

This role entails a mix of hands on development and technical leadership. You'll be the technical representative for your squad of engineers, taking the lead on architectural decisions and quality development practices across the team. We expect you to be team-oriented and be comfortable mentoring, but we do not expect you to directly manage other engineers.

We transitioned to being geo-distributed in 2019, and communicate primarily using Slack, Zoom, and GitHub. Prior to COVID we convened about twice a year in person, and look forward to being able to reinstate our Team Week tradition.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead project breakdowns and code review for feature development
  • Contribute directly to feature development
  • Foster communication and collaboration within the squad
  • Promote sustainable development practices on the squad, leading by example
  • Manage technical risk, and amplify awareness of it
  • Advocate for and organize the addressing of squad-specific technical debt
  • Support your squad's product manager in stakeholder reviews and roadmap planning

What you'll have:

  • 5+ years working on multiple teams developing web apps, and running them in production for thousands of users
  • You’ve built web apps using server-rendered and API/single-page-app approaches
  • Strong collaboration and mentorship skills
  • A track record of improving and maintaining complex systems
  • Clear and concise written communication ability

What you do not need:

  • A college degree
  • A high GPA or SAT score
  • An address in or around New York City
  • To drink – many of our colleagues don’t
