OVERVIEW

VICE Media is seeking a talented tvOS/iOS engineer to join our Mobile Engineering Team and participate in the development of the company’s flagship streaming apps on the Apple TV platform. The engineer will work closely with the Product, Design / UX, and API teams to work on native development across the VICE ecosystem as well as help build the next generation of VICE OTT experiences.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Participate in the entire software development lifecycle of our native app expressions on AppleTV and iOS
• Collaborate with team members, designers, backend engineers, platform team and other stakeholders to define and ship new features in a fast paced environment
• Stay on top of new APIs, third-party libraries, and other technical developments in the mobile/OTT community
• Ability to quickly build both views and controller logic
• Contribute to improvements in coding standards, best practices and team productivity
• Triage issues that may arise in existing VICE apps

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum 2 years of professional experience working primarily on tvOS / Apple TV platform
• Additional experience working with native iOS app development (Objective C, Swift)
• Focus and attention to detail in written and verbal communication
• Strong sense of product ownership and self-directed approach
• Solid understanding and application of best practices for productivity
• Knowledge of adaptive streaming protocols in the Apple ecosystem
• Demonstrated success shipping at least one public-facing mobile app or OTT platform
• Clear understanding of and experience with offline storage (Core Data), promises, networking, multithreading, and performance tuning
• Knowledge of the open-source iOS ecosystem, including which libraries to avoid and why
• Experience working with diverse teams of engineers, designers, and testers
• Keen understanding of Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines
• Deeply passionate about design and user experience
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate on technical challenges

• Demonstrated experience building products with video as the primary medium
• Managing complex user flows and authentication states
• Experience and familiarity with automated testing best practices for mobile
• Experience with other OTT platforms such as Roku
• Experience with modern video streaming technologies and optimizing rich multimedia workflows
• Familiarity with React Native
