VP, Engineering
Particle Health seeks a VP, Engineering to prepare our Engineering organization to scale and meet our ambitious mission and goals. We aim to become the industry standard API(s) to make healthcare data actionable and easy to integrate, in a highly ethical, patient-centric way.
The best candidates for this position will have experience scaling an Engineering org by multiple factors and deep knowledge and experience in the healthtech or healthcare data space.
Responsibility: Direct the Engineering Organization, specifically the following key functions:
- Product Development - provide product functionality to our customers by supporting the front end and back end development teams
- Platform Development - in partnership with the CTO, ensure a solid foundation on which to build products (in service to Particle’s product developers)
- System Reliability/Maintenance - ensure smooth operations, minimized mean time to recovery and fast debugging and observability
- System Architecture - systems that are secure, scaleable and easy to maintain: choose three
- Data Insights - provide easy-to-consume data and business intelligence/insights to business development to inform decision-making
- Engineering Timeline and Prioritization - work with Product & Project to establish and meet realistic timelines for delivering against the product roadmap
- Engineering Operations - support timely, effective, and secure vendor and tool integrations. Support integration of and participation in health information networks
- Engineering Reporting - ensure the rest of the organization has visibility into what Engineering is up to so they can leverage that knowledge. E.g. Marketing press releases, Sales win-backs.
Responsibility: Build, Develop, and Scale the Engineering Organization
- Recruitment + Hiring - in partnership with People, ensure hiring plans are aligned with product goals. Hire and onboard engineers in a way that maximizes performance and minimizes turnover
- Team Structure - ensure the team is organized appropriately for effective collaboration and productivity
- Team Management - Serve as People Manager for both ICs and Managers, ensuring engineers have what they need to succeed. Serve as advocate for direct reports and ensure managers can advocate for theirs.
- Onboarding + Training - Ensure all engineers are onboarded and trained for success. Foster a culture of learning and development, making clear career pathways for all engineers at all levels.
- Team Culture - Build and nurture an inclusive, collaborative, and respectful engineering culture that reflects the values of the organization and produces extraordinary results.
- Team Morale - Ensure the team is insulated against the natural bumps of working in a small startup, ready for change and adaptive to changing circumstances

Required Qualifications:
- Experience successfully scaling an engineering organization by multiple factors while maintaining a strong and healthy culture
- Experience scaling an organization’s technology and architecture through multiple stages of growth
- Deep experience with a variety of programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, Go, Rust
- HL7 knowledge and experience is required with certification preferred
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise with healthcare data formats, particularly parsing and transformation of JSON (FHIR)/XML (C-CDA and IHE profiles)/X12 (Claims)/EDI (HL7 v2)
- Data transports experience with REST, SOAP, SFTP, etc
- 7+ years experience working with healthcare data, EMRs and/or API systems.
- Prior experience with EHR systems such as EPIC, Cerner, Meditech, Allscripts, or Athena is preferred
