About Your Role:

Dotdash Meredith is looking for a Software Engineering Manager focused on front-end development with a demonstrated track record of mentorship, innovative thinking, and technical excellence. You will work in a collaborative Agile environment to support and expand the financial product and service recommendations on Investopedia.com.

As the technology leader on your scrum team, you will be responsible for helping to set technical direction, realizing your ideas in code, and collaborating with other groups within the organization.

About Your Contributions:

  • Manage and mentor front-end developers on your team, to grow their skills and prepare them for increased responsibility.

  • Prototype and develop responsive and elegant cross-platform functionality on a custom server-side component framework, built on Java but leveraging SCSS, Freemarker templates, and ES6 on the front-end, with VueJS increasingly used for more interactive components.

  • Contribute to / maintain Dotdash Meredith’s commitment to highly performant sites.

  • Research new technologies to solve problems and improve existing systems.

  • Lead discussions about project architecture and technical feasibility, make decisions, and justify your development approach.

  • Work in close collaboration with the business and product stakeholders to launch new features while maintaining engineering standards.

  • Organize, track and lead the paying down of technical debt.

About You:

  • 6+ years in a front-end or full stack web development position.

  • 2+ years managing engineers.

  • High levels of skill with HTML, CSS, SCSS, and vanilla Javascript; significant experience with one or more other languages.

  • Significant experience with at least one server-side templating language - think JSP, Twig, Handlebars or the PHP templating in WordPress. Alternatively, experience working with a component-based web framework, particularly one with a server-side templating aspect (e.g., Vue+Nuxt).

  • Experience and knowledge of web performance standards and Google’s Core Web Vitals.

  • Proven track record of working with 3rd party APIs and integrating them into web applications.

  • The ability to translate technical concepts into business-friendly requirements – and vice versa.

  • Comfortable using the tools of modern collaborative Agile+Scrum SDLC, including Git, Jira, etc

An Insider's view of Dotdash Meredith

What projects are you most excited about?

Atomic design is in our DNA at Dotdash. We're striving to have the dev and design teams work closer together and use a single source of truth for how components are pieced together using predefined molecules and atoms. This is exciting and innovative work that is helping us scale at an incredible rate and deliver on our promise of fastest sites!

Brian

Manager, Front-End Development

How do you empower your team to be more creative?

We do quite a few things to encourage creativity like hackathons, design sprints, and "Unconferences". That said, I think the most meaningful thing we do is to encourage teams to be autonomous. Having control and ownership over their respective applications gives our team members the freedom to explore ideas to solve their own problems.
