Job Description

The Assistant Controller will report to the VP, Controller and will be responsible for all of Butterfly Network’s day-to-day accounting operations. Key responsibilities include oversight of the financial monthly close and reporting, managing the revenue, cost accounting, AP, billing and collections functions and leading initiatives such as SOX, financial audits and systems enhancements. The successful candidate will have expertise in GAAP and experience with driving process improvements, creating policies and controls/SOX compliance, implementing systems and leading teams to successful outcomes in a public company environment. 


As part of our team, your core responsibilities will be: 

  • Manage the monthly accounting close process and ensure the financial statements are in compliance with GAAP and company policies and procedures.
    • Oversight of revenue recognition activities, including recording of monthly transactions, handling unusual transactions and analysis. 
    • Manage accounts payable, billing and collections groups. 
    • Oversee cost accounting transaction processing, reconciliations and analysis.
  • Assist with the development and documentation of internal controls. Team up with an Internal Audit to successfully implement and maintain SOX compliance for the Company. 
  • Develop and maintain key financial policies.
  • Main point of contact for the external audit process.
  • Supervise, develop and provide guidance to accounting staff.
    • Support and, as needed, lead, system implementation projects. 
  • Continually develop process improvement plans and capabilities of accounting/finance staff.
  • Perform a broad variety of tasks in support of the role and responsibilities.


Qualifications

Baseline skills/experiences/attributes:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • A mix of 10+ years experience with a public accounting firm and publicly traded companies 
  • Demonstrated leadership and management of a sizeable team 
  • CPA license


Ideally, you also have these skills/experiences/attributes (but it’s ok if you don’t!):

  • Inventory and cost accounting experience
  • Working knowledge of NetSuite or other similar ERP systems
  • SAAS and/or medical device industry experience
