About us

Cityblock Health is a new type of healthcare company. We’re changing healthcare through the use of technology, a novel care model, and the assembly of a world-class, cross-disciplinary team of technologists, physicians and behavioral health practitioners, social workers and mission-driven administrative professionals. We enjoy the support of the top healthcare investors in the country, and the trust and satisfaction of the thousands of members we are fortunate enough to serve every day.

In close collaboration with community based organizations and leading commercial partners, we are reorganizing our health system to focus on what matters to our members. We deliver personalized primary care, behavioral health, and social services through a network of local and virtual health hubs with deep community-based partnerships and enabling technology.

We continue to grow rapidly, and will enter several new markets over the coming year, each with their own commercial relationships and field-based teams. This role will be a key contributor to the success of our business by providing business acumen, expertise in value-based care arrangements, and an unflagging drive to impact people’s lives positively every day.

The Role:

The Controller will be a critical, central member of Cityblock Health’s growing Finance team and will report directly to the head of Finance. As the company's lead accountant, she or he will be responsible for structuring the general ledger to reflect the company's business, yield to financial analysis, and maintain compliance with US GAAP. The Controller will oversee the production of financial reporting to ensure that it is a faithful and true representation of the economic condition of the consolidated enterprise, and is comparable to other companies both within and outside of our industry. He or she would also be responsible for ensuring that regulatory and contractual financial filings are made on a timely and accurate basis. The Controller is also expected to coordinate Cityblock Health’s annual financial audit, as well as its periodic tax filings.

As head of financial controls for Cityblock Health, the Controller will be expected to ensure that the company's resources are secured and vigilantly safeguarded. She or he will be responsible for overseeing accounts receivable, as well as accounts payable, and to monitor both the credit obligations of the company, as well as the obligations of its creditors. The Controller will create and enforce the additional policies and procedures necessary to implement this control regime, monitor compliance with it, and provide for their faithful and true representation in the company’s books and records.

The Controller will also be responsible for Cityblock’s Treasury function, investing cash balances, ensuring that cash is available when it is needed, and monitoring and managing risk exposures to its financial counterparties and intermediaries. The Controller will also be responsible for the company's credit facilities, ensuring that the appropriate facilities are available for procurement, and that the company always enjoys the most beneficial credit terms. This includes the management of trade credit in addition to credit programs sponsored by banks and credit card companies. Lastly, while it is anticipated that the company in future will designate a separate role to be responsible for Procurement, in the meantime the Controller will be expected to oversee this function as well.

You will:

  • Oversee the structure and implementation of Cityblock Health’s accounting
  • Serve as Cityblock’s internal expert on matters of US GAAP
  • Manage our accounting team to ensure timely and accurate delivery of financial statements
  • Provide supervision of and quality control for Cityblock Health’s Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable
  • Coordinate Cityblock’s annual financial audit
  • Ensure the accurate and timely filing of taxes in all jurisdictions in which Cityblock operates
  • Ensure regulatory reserves are maintained, and optimize sources of reserves for capital efficiency
  • Work closely with leaders across the company, including Growth, Operations, Legal and the Executive Team

You’d be a good fit if:

  • You have at least 7 years of relevant experience, and two of these in a management role, but are not afraid to roll up your sleeves
  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy or Finance
  • You have achieved or made significant progress toward the Certified Public Accountant designation
  • You have experience in accounting for or audit of healthcare companies or health insurance companies, specifically in the application of ASC 944 and ASC 954
  • You have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and are accustomed to rapid organizational change
  • You are hard-working and detail-oriented
  • Experience with enterprise finance and accounting systems desired, particularly Oracle Netsuite and PBCS (formerly Hyperion)
  • You want to use your skills in Accountancy to make a difference in the world

Cityblock values diversity as a core tenet of the work we do and populations we serve. We are an equal opportunity employer, indiscriminate of race, religion, ethnicity, national origin, citizenship, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, veteran status, disability, genetic information, or any other protected characteristic.
