We are looking for an experienced Controller, to join our growing team and own the day to day finance functions. Above all the competency requirements, we are looking for a person with the right attitude to take advantage of and set up best practice for a fast growth organization. This person is going to be tasked with setting up the Finance Function for success, and creating the framework for accurate and efficient operation
This role will be reporting to the CFO and be based in our Manhattan office.
What You Will Do:
- Own financial statement preparation and participate in producing budgets
- Participate in financial standards setting and in forecast process
- Business and financial analysis
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
- Manage month-end and year-end close process
- Produce and enhance reporting to external stakeholders
- Set up and management of entity and accounting across geographic regions
- Be a positive driver of change, using initiative and best practice in a culture of constant improvement
- Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results
- Lead, support and collaborate with junior staff
- Provide input into department’s goal setting process
- Direct internal and external audits to ensure compliance
- Ensure compliance with GAAP principles
- Assist with tax matters
What You Should Have:
- 6-8 years experience in finance/accounting with demonstrated career growth
- Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, attention to detail and organizational skills
- In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)/IFRS
- Understanding of debt, financing models and cash flow preparation
- Experience with hiring and managing staff
- Systems implementation/migration experience preferred
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
- Hands-on experience with accounting software packages, like Xero and Netsuite
- Advanced MS Excel skills
- Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills with a problem-solving mindset
- BS degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant with relevant certification (e.g. CMA or CPA)
- Experience in a startup/fast growing business preferred
