Director of Finance
At January, we work to ensure that borrowers who fall behind on debt are treated with dignity. Owing to outdated processes and bad actors, traditional debt collection is rife with harassment and fraud. Our products tackle this by helping financial institutions modernize collections, giving borrowers simpler and more compassionate ways to get back on track.
As the Director of Finance, you will help us become an industry leader by ensuring we have the necessary resources and controls in place. You’ll own FP&A, accounting, and financial operations. Ultimately, your work will enhance our internal decision-making, particularly as it relates to resource allocation. You will report directly to our CEO. You will collaborate closely with numerous internal stakeholders, such as Sales, Product, Account Management, Talent, and our leadership team.
Your impact:
- Develop financial operations. You’ll ensure that the team incorporates financial controls and considerations into relevant day-to-day operations and decision-making, product planning, advocating for finance, and product profitability where it makes sense.
- Own FP&A. You’ll help us set and achieve our revenue targets and relevant goals, develop tools to provide critical information to the leadership team and relevant stakeholders to improve our decision-making, monitor and share core performance metrics, work with the Director of People on payroll and employee benefits matters, and more.
- Oversee accounting. You’ll work with our accountants to close our books in a timely, efficient manner.
- Assist in the development of internal and external communications. For instance, you may assist the leadership team with board-level communications.
- Help drive strategic and operational initiatives as the business grows and scales, including working with leadership to set our company-wide OKRs.
You may be a fit if you:
- 5+ years of experience in a finance role (FP&A) with experience building new systems from scratch
- Ideal candidates have worked at a venture-backed, high-growth startup that they helped scale
- Familiarity with accounting, including a thorough understanding of GAAP
- Proficiency in advanced modeling skills, particularly with SQL, is highly desirable for this position
- Resourcefulness, thrives at making order out of (an appropriate amount of) chaos
- Process obsession, an appreciation that over time superior processes lead to better outcomes
- Effective written and oral communication skills, ability to communicate with all stakeholders and team members, regardless of seniority and department
- An operational mindset, willingness to get their hands dirty and gain exposure to all facets of our business
