Role
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Controller will put into practice new accounting processes and procedures across the organization. The ideal candidate will have deep accounting expertise and will work closely with the team to ensure the proper controls are in place, followed, and documented. You will be hands-on in implementing and managing day-to-day accounting operations, including the month, quarter, and year-end close processes.
The Controller will have the opportunity to define the structure of the accounting function and to build the team’s functions to deliver quality results. They will create processes and policies that ensure timely delivery of accurate financial reports, facilitate the smooth operation of all financial systems, and support the rapid growth of the company while at the same time controlling costs. The ideal start date for this position is as soon as possible in early 2021.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implement a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
- Develop standard operating procedures and reporting for cost center SG&A spending, contribution margin, and gross margin analysis.
- Establish, document, monitor, and enforce policies, procedures and internal controls to support timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Oversee the production of periodic financial reports; ensuring that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles and international financial reporting standards.
- Provide technical accounting leadership and guidance on significant and complex accounting matters, especially those related to revenue recognition for a dynamic and evolving cybersecurity business.
- Build a detailed and meaningful monthly reporting package to report to the leadership team.
- Collaborate with internal and external teams such as auditors and consultants as needed.
- Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
Requirements
- 5-7 years, in-house accounting experience.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or similar field required.
- CPA certification required.
- Public Accounting experience preferred.
- Experience as a Controller in a similarly-sized company or comparable role.
- Strong understanding of GAAP revenue recognition practices, financing models, and cash flow preparation required.
- Experience with auditing required.
- Prior acquisition experience, including accounting for business combinations, asset purchases, and joint ventures, as well as managing business integration
- New systems and software implementation experience
- Proven ability to remain pragmatic in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
- Highly proficient with various softwares including Unanet, Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets. Added bonus to have experience in Expensify, Deel, JustWorks and Betterment.
