About the Role
The Manager of FP&A will be a key member of our new FP&A function here at Cockroach Labs. This role offers the unique opportunity to directly impact Cockroach Labs’ growth trajectory by standing up its FP&A function. An instrumental hire as the company continues to scale, this individual will be expected to take on responsibility at a rapid pace. The Manager of FP&A will be on the ground floor of a newly formed function at a high-growth startup and will have significant opportunities for growth.
You Will
- Driving our company-wide forecasting and reporting process. Reporting to the Head of FP&A, you will lead the preparation, analysis, and communication of the monthly budget vs actual and forecast process, including Management and Board reporting materials.
- Building and continually improving our financial forecasting models and accuracy. You will help build out our financial model including full P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow modeling.
- Partner with Head of FP&A, CFO, Controllership, and other key personnel to implement a new financial planning system for Cockroach Labs.
- Leading financial planning and analysis globally across all our functions to align with our rapid growth.
- You will be responsible for driving planning and forecast accuracy across the company.
- Be the person of contact for budgeting-related questions or inquiries from departments.
- Building strong, trusted relationships with senior management and leaders within Cockroach Labs, including but not limited to our CFO, CPO, People Operations, and CRO.
- You will be expected to play an active role in managing the business.
- Owning corporate forecast assumptions and drivers. You will own software revenue forecasting (ASC 606) as well as corporate assumptions and drivers including allocations, attrition forecasting, Capex/depreciation, and COGS.
- You will be responsible for understanding and effectively communicating the story behind the numbers, trends, and drivers of our business and financial results, spanning from department-level detail up to board-level, big picture impact.
- Partner with Accounting to understand any fluctuations between budget vs actuals
- Assisting and completing ad hoc FP&A projects or analyses as needed
You Have
- 8+ years of experience in Corporate Finance and/or FP&A at a technology/SaaS company
- Proven experience building strong relationships with business partners across functions and countries
- Extensive knowledge of and ability to build and adapt financial models, including connected three-statement financial models
- Strong knowledge and familiarity of financial reporting & accounting concepts; particularly under ASC 606 guidelines
- Familiarity with NetSuite and Salesforce, a plus
- Experience managing workloads in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Built and leveraged cloud-based planning/modeling tools
- A thoughtful collaborator, and a great listener; keenly focused on understanding business challenges, building strong relationships, and driving even stronger outcomes
- A highly analytical problem-solver, with a propensity for action-taking
- Able to “zoom in and out” of details when needed. You love to “roll up the sleeves” and get into the data and analysis while keeping the bigger picture in focus.
- An excellent communicator capable of translating complex, nuanced, or detailed analysis into clear, actionable summaries or recommendations.
- Comfortable in ambiguity, thrive through change, are highly adaptable, and can create clarity and focus in a dynamic environment
The Expectations
In your first 30 days, you will develop a strong understanding of our current processes, systems, and organizational structure. You will meet with stakeholders across the organization to better understand the current financial systems ecosystem. You will develop relationships with other operational leaders at Cockroach Labs and understand their plans. You will review and provide feedback on the current Company architecture, processes, and current plans for this year. You will start to identify areas for improvement in the team operations and processes and make recommendations on how to improve these processes.
In your first 60 days, you will have a good understanding of how Cockroach Labs operates and continue to identify opportunities to improve the Company’s financial systems. You will start implementing new processes to address the more immediate needs of the Company.
After 3 months, you'll be fully integrated into the team and have created a roadmap of Financial System projects to make the Company best in class. You will start implementing the proposed and redesigned systems. You will have built key relationships so that you are the go-to subject matter expert in your field.
