The Manager, Technical Accounting is responsible for assisting in the evaluation and implementation of new accounting standards and ensuring the application of GAAP and IFRS to complex transactions. This position will also be responsible for serving as a subject matter expert for accounting questions for the Controllership area, performing technical accounting research, drafting accounting policies and writing accounting position memoranda.
The successful person will be excited about the diversity of work and should also be willing to roll-up their sleeves and dive into the details to solve problems. This role will have significant interaction with senior management and internal/ independent auditors.
Your Day-to-Day Role
Understand new accounting standards, assess the implications, if any, to the Company, and execute adoption as appropriate, including communication and training
Contribute in the preparation of timely, accurate and meaningful internal and external financial statements and management reports
Active participation with corporate accounting in the monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidation processes (including preparing and reviewing inter-company eliminations)
Documenting, researching, and resolving technical accounting issues for all areas related to Company's accounting functions and financial reporting
Conduct and memorialize accounting research of complex and non-routine accounting transactions to conclude on the appropriate application of U.S. GAAP/IFRS with respect to such transactions and any impact on accounting policies and procedures
Provide technical accounting support for ongoing business activities, including conducting research, documenting processes, and forming conclusions in all areas, including fair value of assets and liabilities, accounting for derivatives, business combinations, leases etc.
Consider implication of new accounting pronouncements relevant to the Company on the financial statements, disclosures, and current accounting policies
Interact with internal/external auditors during quarterly reviews and year-end audit, as well as regarding technical accounting topics and/or new accounting pronouncements
Assist the Controller with the periodic application and review of internal controls over the financial reporting process
Provide training to accounting team for current policies, new / updated accounting guidance, and other complex areas of accounting
Responsible for ASC 606/IFRS 15 revenue recognition reporting during month end close
Lead the ASC 842/IRFS 16 lease accounting process for month end close
Regularly research and present guidance for all complex transactions while specifically a subject expert in the majority, if not all, of ASC 480, ASC 350, ASC 842 and corresponding IFRS codification.
Work on special projects identified by senior management and prepare whitepapers in support of technical accounting positions as required
Partner with business unit leaders on review of customer contracts, and perform initial conclusions of appropriate revenue recognition treatment
Participate in ad hoc projects requiring specialized accounting
Your Work Experience
Bachelor's degree in accounting
CPA or CA
10+ years' experience in Accounting/Finance with technical accounting research responsibilities
4+ years public accounting experience highly preferred
Comprehensive understanding of U.S. GAAP, IFRS and SEC regulations
Strong research skills with the ability to apply relevant guidance and draft accounting memos to support conclusions, including related to complex and highly judgmental topics
Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication and presentation skills
Experience with financial and accounting reporting systems (i.e. Netsuite)
