Role Description

We’re seeking a part-time bookkeeper to support our operations team to perform a variety of accounting, bookkeeping, data entry and reporting tasks. We estimate requiring at least 8 hours of support per week to start, highly likely to increase over time, potentially to a Full-Time Bookkeeper role.

Your responsibilities will include keeping financial records updated, preparing simple reports, reconciling bank statements and various data entry tasks as necessary. You will work with accounting software programs (e.g. Xero, Abacus, Harvest, etc) to process business transactions, like accounts payable and receivable, expenses, and others. You should be familiar with accounting procedures, be extremely well-organized, and a stickler for details.

Ultimately, a successful part-time Bookkeeper will help ensure that the company’s daily accounting and data entry functions run accurately and effectively.

Core Responsibilities

  • Properly record and classify all checking/credit card transactions in Xero
  • Review and approve employee expense reports in Abacus
  • Process incoming invoices with proper approval
  • Assist in monthly close procedures, such as payroll allocations, fixed asset reconciliations, bank reconciliations, expenses, etc.
  • Execute various data entry tasks

Requirements

  • 2+ years of recent bookkeeping work or bookkeeping internship experience, working independently or on a small accounting team
  • Experience working with executives in a fast-paced environment preferably in technology, management consulting or finance firms, hyper-growth environments, or startups a plus
  • Superb written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity in applying US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Command of Google Apps (Drive, Docs, Slides, Sheets), Microsoft Office, and Slack
  • Proficiency with Xero, Quickbooks, Abacus, Justworks, Harvest, TSheets, Trello a plus
  • Flexible in terms of duties and responsiveness with a positive “can-do” spirit
  • Natural ability to multitask and prioritize in a dynamic environment
  • Incredibly well organized and flexible in approach; you remain calm in a crisis
  • Quick learner — have a “knack” for tech — able to figure out new systems and adapt on the go
  • Independent — can works under little direction and exercise sound judgment when making urgent decisions
  • Team player — thrives in a team setting and are willing to help others
  • Self-starter — knows when to trust instincts and when to ask for help
  • Problem solver — finds creative solutions efficiently and proactively
  • Discretion — demonstrate impeccable prudence with access to sensitive company, customer, and personal information

  • Option to work remotely and/or from our NY offices
