What You'll Do

In this role, you'll work within the Finance team to support our international expansion. The Senior Accountant will fill a key role in driving global consolidation and local financial reporting requirements. You’ll report to the Manager of Accounting and Operations and be responsible for implementing and improving operational processes within the global Finance organization, maintaining the international books, and ensuring local compliance for overseas entities. You will be involved in cross-functional projects and solving problems to reduce potential risks while influencing and collaborating with others towards ultimate success. Flatiron is looking for an individual who is excited to work in a fast-paced, startup-like environment and determined to get the job done. 

In addition, you'll also:

  • Work cross functionally with Procurement, FP&A and various business owners on policies and processes to help drive international initiatives and improvements
  • Collaborate with all international teams, and key US-based functions, to provide financial guidance on topics associated with Flatiron’s international activities, including contractual agreements, funding arrangements and financial systems
  • Support accounting period close for areas of functional responsibility which may include preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis
  • Ensure tax, regulatory, and local GAAP compliance requirements are met timely and accurately and in compliance with Roche policies
  • You will actively assist in international compliance projects such as local statutory audits and regulatory filings
  • Coordinate with external auditors during financial statement and tax audits
  • Research, analyze and document complex accounting topics and determinations

Who You Are

You’re a self-starter who understands the monthly close process and has a great mindset about continuous process improvement. You’re able to manage multiple competing priorities and believe proactive communication is essential. You have a desire to learn about new markets and foreign business customs. To thrive in this role, you have a balanced combination of expertise in accounting with a proven track record of solving problems to reduce potential risks, all while collaborating with others. You’re a kind, passionate and collaborative problem-solver who seeks and gives candid feedback, and values the chance to make an important impact. 

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • You have at least 2+ years of experience in Big Four or national public accounting firms or 3+ years of combined experience in public accounting and private accounting
  • You are able to join limited off-hour ad-hoc meetings in different time zones, which include Asia and Europe
  • You have experience working with intercompany and/or multinational companies, currencies and translation
  • You have the ability to thrive in an unstructured environment, with a desire to improve existing processes and help the team build new processes
  • You are proficient in Advanced Excel, including vlookups, if statements, sumifs, index/match, pivots, etc.
  • You have supported internal activities related to financial audits and filing of financials in accordance with GAAP, IFRS, statutory requirements
  • You have the ability to think on your feet and change or adapt to ambiguous situations
  • You have a demonstrated history of solving multiple complex operational and accounting challenges
  • You have the ability to self-direct and to take full ownership of projects, developing, initiating and managing multiple projects and delivering on deadline
  • You have excellent interpersonal, analytical and communication skills

Extra Credit

  • You have a CPA license
  • You are experienced with NetSuite, Coupa, SQL
  • You have a general understanding of transfer pricing principles
  • You have worked in Japan or Germany (and/or speak the language)
