About the Job


Spruce is looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join its growing Finance team in NYC, though you can live and work anywhere. The ideal candidate will have an interest in real estate and will thrive in a fast-paced environment.


As part of the Finance team, you will help lead accounting projects and processes and provide mentorship to Spruce’s junior accounting staff. Your ability to tackle multiple projects will assist the team in meeting company deliverables in a quality manner. 

What you'll do

  • Prepare and/or review reconciliation of general ledger accounts, credit card purchases, daily bank activity, and monthly escrow activity.
  • Create monthly/quarterly fluctuation analysis to ensure accounting balances are appropriate in the circumstances and the accounting treatment used aligns with relevant reporting requirements.
  • Assist in month end closing and financial reporting process by creating and automating financial reporting for monthly, quarterly and annual requirements.
  • Support internal and external audits, including tax and statutory audits.
  • Drive process improvement and contribute to projects that achieve scalability and efficiency.
  • Maintain a solid understanding of accounting policies and stay current on changes in GAAP.

What we're looking for

  • Successful contribution to the Accounting function in multiple companies; Big Four experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting and active CPA license.
  • Proven problem-solving skills, especially within a fast-moving and highly innovative environment.
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with internal and external business partners at various levels.
  • Ability to drive projects forward with limited resources and a desire to take on additional responsibilities. 
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Experience with cloud-based finance tools, ideally including NetSuite, Bill.com, and Teampay.
