About Spruce

Spruce is the platform enabling modern real estate transactions. We work with forward thinking mortgage lenders, real estate companies and investors, and we believe the future of real estate will be driven by automation, efficiency and digital experiences, and we provide the products and services necessary to make that happen.

About the role

Spruce is looking for a Senior Manager of FP&A to lead our small but growing financial planning and analysis team. This team maintains the company's operating model, partners across the organization to provide forward-looking analysis to support business decisions, helps determine pricing for new products, and analyzes capital allocation decisions. The team is also responsible for all planning processes, including the annual plan, monthly forecasts, and long-range plans.

Our business has grown both bigger and more complex, and this person will have the opportunity to help scale our FP&A group from small and scrappy into a well-honed machine that keeps the entire business healthy and pointed in the right direction. This role requires exceptional communication skills and a great deal of interaction and relationship building with key stakeholders across finance and the leadership team. This person will report to Spruce’s Head of Finance.

In this role, you will:

  • Function as the key finance partner for the most senior business leaders in the company and build out a team that partners with all of Spruce’s department heads to provide strategic financial support
  • Collaborate with teams across Spruce on financial issues impacting their areas of accountability and help build/enhance reporting to provide insights and analysis for key stakeholders, including budget vs. actual analyses, headcount reporting, and special projects
  • Continue building the foundation for our FP&A operations (people, processes, and systems) to enable better decision making for the company and its stakeholders
  • Work with the rest of the FP&A team to own our long-term financial model
  • Lead company-wide annual and monthly forecasting processes, including the development of budgets and financial targets
  • Build outstanding and effective relationships with cross-functional teams
  • Define frameworks for how we evaluate investments and resource allocation decisions
  • Collaborate with Accounting and the rest of the finance team to analyze and report out on budgeted results and when necessary, reforecasting to shape decision-making
  • Understand and communicate financial results and trends to management, and recommend appropriate course of action when results vary from forecast
  • Assist in preparing materials for the Head of Finance, including board decks, investor materials, and other executive updates

Requirements

  • The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills from multiple years in an investing role as well as a few years of experience in FP&A at a mature tech company; for example 7-10 years combined experience in investment banking, private equity, finance, or FP&A
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent
  • Proven problem-solving skills, especially within a fast-moving and highly innovative environment
  • Strong financial analysis skills and a demonstrated proficiency in using complicated data sources to build financial models and multi-year projections
  • Ability to write SQL queries
  • Experience working directly with business functional leaders and supporting a variety of functions, including Sales & Marketing, Operations, R&D and Strategy
  • Ability to drive projects forward with limited resources and a desire to take on additional responsibilities
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills
  • Humility about your strengths and honesty about where you can improve
  • Exceptional communication skills

We are proud of the team we’re building. We're committed to equal opportunity employment -- and beyond. We believe diverse experiences and perspectives build a stronger team and a better product. We welcome fresh perspectives and challenge our own assumptions to make Spruce better. The more inclusive we are as a company, the better we can serve our customers.
