A Better opportunity:
Our Accounting and Finance team is hiring for a proactive and motivated Senior Payroll Tax Analyst to join our growing payroll team. Reporting to the Global Payroll Director, this role offers the unique opportunity to directly impact Better’s growth trajectory by joining Better’s growing payroll tax function. You will assist with the company’s efforts around federal, state, local tax filings and for creating processes in alignment with best practices. As the company continues to scale rapidly, you will be expected to take on responsibility at a rapid pace and must be willing to work on various ad-hoc tax projects.
Responsibilities will include:
- Assist with federal, state and local payroll tax filings, audits and reconciliations to ensure tax compliance in all jurisdictions.
- Work with payroll leaders on tax withholding setup in all states.
- Assist with research and monitoring of all federal and state tax laws as it relates to payroll.
- Manage payroll tax notices.
- Assist with maintaining effective control procedures over payroll tax processes in alignment with best practices.
- Respond to payroll tax email and issues.
- Work on special projects as assigned, including, but not limited to participation in payroll process improvement and automation.
- Assist with data collection from cross functional teams.
- Liaise with Better colleagues in Talent, Compliance and other departments as needed.
About You:
- 3+ years of payroll tax experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance
- Strong understanding of federal and state tax laws
- Able to thrive in an extremely fast paced environment
- Detail oriented, deadline driven and work well under pressure with a high degree of accuracy
- Ability to work in a team environment and willingness to "roll up your sleeves"
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Google Suite
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and organize efficiently
- Experience resolving payroll tax notices a plus
- Experience with payroll systems and HRIS, preferably Workday
