Job Description

Are you interested in being a part of the mission to cure cancer at MSK? We have an exciting opportunity for a Manager – Trading & Risk to join our Investment Management Division (IMD). In pursuit of patient care and scientific research, our team manages long-term investment assets in excess of $6 billion.

 

You will fully support the Senior Vice President and Chief Investment Officer and execute our small-but-important direct trading activities, analyze trading activities at our hedge fund managers, and, lead risk evaluation across all of our investment pools. You will be part of a collaborative and interdependent team pursuing investment excellence across all investment pools for MSK.

You will contribute meaningfully to IMD goals and objectives by…

  • Providing trade execution and management, mostly conducted in futures markets throughout all times when such markets are open
  • Monitoring and managing open orders
  • Corresponding with IMD and MSK management on trading activity
  • Developing, cultivating and maintaining counterparty relationships
  • Coordinating with MSK operations on settlement and margin
  • Overseeing reporting of traded positions o Developing own guidelines and systems, and operating independently within the framework of agreed strategies and authority levels
  • Improving our risk management framework to cover market-related risks; Reviewing and developing risk management protocols with team members
  • Acquiring knowledge of the overall portfolio and understanding the impact of individual investment decisions on the portfolio as a whole
  • Managing day-to-day oversight and development of the trading and risk effort
  • Collaborating with other team members regarding risk modeling, scenario planning, stress testing, expected returns and liquidity management
  • Providing market commentary to IMD
  • Evaluating trading performance at our trading-focused hedge funds
  • Interacting directly with investment operations and accounting colleagues to manage service providers and to set up reporting for direct investments

As a Candidate, You Have…

  • Proven experience in the investment industry, with a strong background in trading, risk management, market analysis and financial systems
  • Familiarity with all major types of derivatives, ideally including experience using or supervising the use of derivatives for risk management and return enhancement in an environment with strong internal controls
  • Exceptional quantitative/analytical skills, bringing a high level of determination, creativity, foresight and pragmatism to the role
  • Expertise with trading various direct investments and derivatives including single-name equities, futures, options, ETFs, commodities, Treasuries and other areas
  • Experience with multi-asset class portfolios, and specifically hedge funds
  • Demonstrated the ability to adapt to, and work through, changing and competing priorities
  • Proven experience of working to and meeting demanding reporting timelines
  • Diplomatic communication skills to influence and inform stakeholders
  • An innate collegiality and willingness to be a resource to others
  • Well-balanced and in-depth understanding of global financial markets and economies, established credentials for in-depth risk analyses
  • Solid understanding of capital markets and their impact on the investment climate
  • Emotional maturity, stress tolerance, self-confidence and the ability to motivate others
  • A track record of academic accomplishment
  • A meticulous attention to detail
  • Demonstrated the capability of working independently and under pressure
  • Availability during futures trading hours
