Reporting directly to the CFO, the VP Controller will be responsible for leading the accounting and tax teams of the company. The Controller will manage and direct daily accounting activities; ensure that proper accounting and recording of company transactions are performed in an accurate and timely manner; and produce financial and other key reports for external shareholders and management. Candidates should possess knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and knowledge of U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regulations and provisions of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX).

When you’re not catching zzz’s, this is what you’ll do

General Team Leadership

  • Provide strategic management and leadership of Corporate Accounting, Payroll, Purchasing, AR/AP, SEC reporting, and Tax functions
  • Oversee all accounting processes, controls, and financial reporting functions throughout Company, and develop finance and accounting resources to support Company's business initiatives
  • Support the CFO in engaging the board’s audit and finance committees around issues and trends in the financial operating model
  • Suggest and establish best practices surrounding accounting, reporting and general ledger (GL) management
  • Liaise with business partners, IT/Tech, Legal and financial planning and analyses (FP&A) to develop interdepartmental relationships and efficient work flows necessary for easy of accounting and transfer of information

Accounting

  • Lead the process for completing analysis supporting complex accounting, including business combinations, restructuring, stock compensation, revenue recognition, leases, inventory valuation, credit losses and income tax provisions
  • Lead technical accounting solutions and determine appropriate accounting, disclosure and basis for conclusions on complex accounting area and transactions
  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate SEC standards and regulatory requirements
  • Analyze the potential impact on the company, including the impact on financial modeling and budgeting, of new accounting standards
  • Full cycle accounting, including GL, AR, AP, billing and month-end reporting
  • Daily cash management and reconciliation
  • Establish and ensure compliance with the financial controls and accounting policies and procedures of the organization
  • Ensure accounting procedures and reporting conform to GAAP
  • Ensure the company’s compliance with recent and updated accounting pronouncements 
  • Maintain internal control and safeguards for revenue reporting, accruals, and cash management and other SOX related compliance
  • Coordinate all audit activity with internal and external auditors
  • Key partner in the annual budgeting and planning process, inclusive of Cash flow management and forecasting

Tax

  • Ensure company compliance with federal, state and local government requirements and tax filings
  • Oversee statutory requirements and filings are met timely
  • Oversight of the companies accounting surrounding deferred tax asset/liability and NOLs

Reporting

  • Responsible for all required financial reporting
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting including monthly, quarterly and annual reporting
  • Evaluate and streamline financial statement reporting to align with organizational framework, including segment and other SEC reporting to investors
  • Partner with interdepartmental business leaders and external auditors and legal counsel to ensure adequate disclosures

ERP

  • Define and manage ERP processes and procedures (financial, accounting, production, labor costing and customer facing), balancing efficiency and an adequate SOX compliant control environment
  • Conduct business and cost analysis to advise business leaders on the most effective use of assets
  • Recommend improvements to ensure the integrity of the company's financial information
  • Oversee financial systems and upgrades

Our dream candidate

  • Bachelors in Business, Accounting or related field
  • CPA license and proven experience as a public company Controller in a commercial/revenue generating company, with the ability to implement SOX compliance and quarterly SEC filings 
  • 10+ years of experience in accounting and financial roles with a minimum of five years in leadership position 
  • Deep knowledge of all aspects of GAAP, technical accounting, SEC Regulations and SOX
  • Experienced leader of people and process
  • Thrives in a high-growth and complex environment, seeks out continuous improvement
  • Develops effective working relationships with team members, business partners and vendors
  • Understands how to manage change with stakeholders of a new system or process, leads change
  • Clearly articulates ideas and thoughts in written and verbal form
