Our team, backed by funding from leading VC's, is poised to define the cannabis supply chain through technology. LeafLink was named one of Built In NYC's 'Best Places to Work in 2019', as well as one of Fast Company's 'Top 10 Most Innovative Companies in Enterprise for 2018', joining the ranks of Amazon, Slack, and VMWare - and we're just getting started!
The Role
LeafLink is looking for a VP of Finance to join our growing team in New York, reporting directly to our founder and Chief Executive Officer. The role will, at the highest level, take leadership of the day-to-day back office functions of LeafLink - finance, legal, and related operations - while providing leadership and input on new strategic initiatives and setting up financial models and KPI infrastructure for the company and its new business opportunities.
This role is for self-starters and entrepreneurial-minded individuals who believe execution is everything. You are a good fit for this position if you are a goal-oriented overachiever, inherently positive and direct individual willing to explore new paths that require rapid-learning; you won’t be a great fit if your first instinct will be to hire a large team! We expect everyone at LeafLink to be humble and get their hands dirty in day-to-day tasks.
Responsibilities:
- Core Finance:
- Handle AP, AR, accounting, and other day-to-day operational finance work
- Build out and actively maintain the core LeafLink financial model and balance sheet, including sophisticated tracking and modeling of revenue, margins, and profitability
- Build out and track LeafLink’s budgets, working with department heads to make sure they have the resources they need. Use those budgets to manage LeafLink’s cash burn and cash balances
- Work with the head of LeafLink Financial to secure necessary financing facilities on the best possible terms
- Work with the CEO to develop pricing models and methodologies for LeafLink’s services
- Set and track key KPIs and goals for the LeafLink business
- Business Operations:
- Aid in planning and monitoring daily business ops across our six offices, primarily focusing in our NY and LA co-HQ’s
- Develop and execute a plan for LeafLink’s physical expansion in the US and, perhaps, internationally
- Help in managing LeafLink’s sales pipeline, and strategic expansions as needed
- Investor Relations:
- Handle all investor financial and KPI reporting
- Handle all inbound investor interest/conversations, and develop investor relationships (with both existing and new investors)
- Help the CEO negotiate terms for subsequent financing rounds and other related strategic transactions
- Legal:
- Develop and maintain efficient relationships with outside counsel
- Maintain cutting edge knowledge of the rapidly developing regulatory/legislative structures of the cannabis industry across all territories
- Oversee all contract drafting and negotiations including client contracts, employment agreements, partnership agreements, and vendor contracts
- Strategy & Partnerships:
- Assist the CEO in strategic partnership evaluation, analysis, and negotiation
- Develop a point of view, supported by robust financial models, on opportunities to scale LeafLink’s marketplace business including, but not limited to shipping solutions/distribution, payments, advertising, and marketing solutions
Qualifications:
- 8+ years relevant experience in venture-backed startups, ideally from ground-up to late-stage series round companies
- Strong working experience in practical finance - AP/AR, accounting, financial systems and policies, and FP&A, P&L
- Demonstrated humility, hustle, and curiosity
- Meaningful managerial experience including hiring and leading teams - your past direct reports should all love you (or if not at least respect you!)
- Strong experience building robust financial models, particularly around and related to SaaS platform businesses
- Strong analytical abilities and an innate understanding of marketplace businesses and the nascent cannabis industry
- Deep relationships with venture investors and experience with venture financing and similar transactions
- Some experience working on and leading non-finance functions like human resources, legal, and corporate development
- Optional but strongly preferred - experience evaluating, leading, and closing strategic partnerships and/or M&A transactions
- The ability to excel in a fast-paced startup, and excitement (not fear) about a rapidly changing industry
Benefits:
- Generous PTO
- Fun office environment
- Competitive salary
- Benefit Matching (medical, dental, vision)
- 401k Offered
- Stock options
