About Us:

WireScreen is a Sequoia-backed startup building a global intelligence platform to help multinational companies, asset managers, and regulators track and monitor their supply chains and business partnerships. Our leadership team includes a Pulitzer Prize winner and engineers who helped scale Dropbox, Peloton, and Compass. We’re seeking a talented Backend Software Engineer to join our growing engineering team. If you're passionate about tackling technical challenges at scale and driving change in the realm of global investment decisions, supply chain monitoring, and risk response, we want you on board.

Your Role: Backend Software Engineer

As a Backend Software Engineer, you’ll work closely with other members of the team to build and iterate on our next-generation web app. You’ll draw and improve relationships between millions of entities, unlocking value with a team of in-house domain experts on corporate records.

You’ll work across our entire backend – from enhancing our data pipeline (from intake to publish), to working on server-side business logic, and iterating on our deploy process. You’ll scale up the systems that handle our data, improve how our software operates, and push the envelope of what’s possible, all in pursuit of a killer customer experience.

Strong communication skills are a must in this role. We work closely with our research team, deep experts in international trade and regulatory concerns, and our product and design counterparts. Teamwork makes the dream work. We move with urgency to reach our goals. We have a world of challenging problems to solve and are looking for someone who can roll up their sleeves with the rest of our team. Reporting directly to the Head of Engineering, you’ll have an excellent opportunity to accelerate your career, while developing a breadth of skills alongside capable and highly motivated peers.

What You'll Do:

  • Build and iterate on scalable, reliable, and low-maintenance systems to ingest and derive insights from data at scale.
  • Help drive our technical vision.
  • Work alongside product, design, and other engineers to deliver valuable new features.
  • Advocate for and prototype new technology solutions to high-stakes, million-dollar real-world problems.
  • Continuously improve our technical processes, documentation, and tooling.

What You Have:

  • 3+ years of experience as a backend software engineer.
  • Proficiency with relational databases and SQL.
  • A sense of urgency and open-minded approach to problem solving.
  • A passion for building software to solve business problems.
  • Strong technical skills that enable you to deliver quality products, and break down large problems into smaller milestones.
  • Strong communication skills, especially with non-technical stakeholders.
  • A growth mindset and positive attitude.

Ideally, You Also Have:

  • Strong Python programming skills.
  • Experience working with datasets in the 10s of millions of items, especially in a knowledge graph or similar format.
  • Experience building and scaling data pipelines.
  • Familiarity with web-app frontends in ReactJS.
  • Experience collaborating with stakeholders on data-related problems, eg. data analysts, data engineers, and data scientists.

Do High Impact Work: We help some of the most significant companies and organizations in the world assess opportunities and risks across their global base of stakeholders, shaping the structure of commerce.

Be Empowered: We share a fearless growth mindset. We embrace fresh challenges and new ideas and build with a bias for action. We believe in active listening, transparency, and openness.

Grow With Us: We’re investing in our teams to supercharge our product & customer experience. We have the necessary foundations and market momentum to grow at an incredible pace annually. This is just the beginning.

*The compensation for this role is targeted at $145,000-$165,000, plus equity.
