Kinnek is the champion for small businesses. Our mission is to build a single platform for small businesses that makes discovering, transacting and interacting with suppliers more powerful, more trustworthy and easier than ever before.

Over the past few years, we've started down this path by building out our marketplace- the first B2B marketplace that connects small and medium businesses with suppliers of equipment, machinery, bulk supplies- really anything they need for their business that can't be easily found on the likes of Amazon or eBay.

We recently hired a widely-respected product leader as our Head of Product, and this role would involve working closely with that person to shepherd our product development efforts through our next phase of growth and beyond. Both of our founders are Engineers by training and built the first version of the platform, so the Engineering team receives a lot of support and enjoys a prominent position at Kinnek. We are a technology company, led by engineers, and we are looking for an assertive Head of Engineering who can continue that tradition going forward.

In order to guide our company through the next exciting phase of growth and lay the foundation for future success, we're looking for an Head of Engineering who will own our company's engineering strategy, lay the foundation for the strongest engineering team in New York, and guide our development efforts through these exciting times. This person would report directly to the founders of the company, and would own all aspects of Kinnek's engineering effort, from recruiting to strategy to people management to tactical engineering decisions. We’re looking for someone who can be a close adviser to the founders, be a core member of our leadership team, and champion Kinnek's engineering team both internally and externally.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the Engineering team on a day-to-day basis and manage a growing engineering organization, with a mandate to grow our Engineering team to dozens over the next few years
  • Identify, implement and iterate on Engineering best practices, working with PMs, Engineers, Designers, and other members of the team to relentlessly improve how we operate
  • Own recruiting efforts for the Engineering team, including building our Engineering employer brand within the tech community in New York
  • Develop a roadmap for organizational structure and growth of the Engineering team
  • Ensure the Engineering team executes on our company's roadmap effectively
  • Day-to-day people management of the Engineers at Kinnek, including providing mentorship and guidance, monitoring performance and giving performance reviews and feedback, and having periodic 1:1s
  • Ensure that our Engineers have strong learning/development opportunities at Kinnek and have a clear understanding of their career progression
  • Work closely with founders to continually refine the company's high-level technology strategy and vision
  • Articulate our technology strategy and efforts effectively within the organization, and help internal stakeholders understand the impact of what the Engineering team is building
  • Work cross-functionally with Data, Design, Product, Marketing, Sales, Customer Success, etc. to ensure that Engineering resources are allocated effectively as per the company's needs
  • Run daily engineering stand-ups and sprint planning meetings

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of engineering experience
  • 5+ years of engineering management experience
  • Being an assertive engineering leader who is excited to grow a strong team around them and cultivate engineering talent
  • Explicit desire to be at the ground-floor of an early-stage, rapid-growth startup
