Assistant Director of Career Management, MBA Programs - Cornell Tech, NYC

The Assistant Director of Career Management, Cornell Tech, will play a key role in driving the career services function serving the Johnson Cornell Tech MBA (JCT MBA) program. The position reports to the Senior Director, Cornell Tech Career Management, with a dotted-line relationship to the Director, Career Management, S.C. Johnson Graduate School of Management. The incumbent will work with the Career Management Centers at Cornell Tech and Johnson to assess the JCT MBA student population needs, plan and lead innovative programs to meet these needs, deliver career development programs, plan and execute events, develop and refine processes, engage with potential employers on behalf of the students, and advise students one-on-one and in groups. Occasional backup support for Cornell Tech’s students in technical programs may be expected.

Overall Responsibilities Include

  • Provide consistent support for Johnson Cornell Tech MBA students pursuing careers in a range of companies with a focus on technology and innovation, including entrepreneurial opportunities, job search approach and alternative career paths.
  • Establish, cultivate and manage relationships with a diverse pool of prospective employers as well as other entities which can build a pipeline to such employers for career opportunities across business and technical programs.
  • Interface between the Johnson Career Management Center and Cornell Tech Career Management to identify and help execute on opportunities to advance career opportunities and job preparedness of the JCT MBA students, including: on-site career support for JCT MBA students during the summer semester in Ithaca, facilitating communication and information sharing between Cornell Tech and Johnson relevant to JCT MBAs, collaboration on events, systems/services, and employer outreach and jointly developing, executing and reporting on an annual workplan for cross-campus activities.
  • Implement innovative programming to expose students to careers and attract employers to recruit Cornell Tech students across business and technical programs.
  • Engage with JCT MBA students and Johnson Career Management onsite in Ithaca and remotely from NYC during the program’s summer term on issues relevant to the JCT MBA career support
  • Design and manage career training programming to enhance students’ preparedness for interviews
  • Drive metrics to track placements of students and alumni.
  • Oversee career-related events for students.
  • Provide career support for alumni.

This is a full-time position based at the Cornell Tech campus in New York City. The position will require frequent participation in evening events primarily during the workweek. The incumbent will be expected to spend 4-6 weeks on the Ithaca campus over the summer to support the JCT MBA summer program.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 4 years of experience years in industry (recruiting/HR/business function) or career services capacity in academia
  • Experience working with MBAs in recruiting, business or career coaching capacity especially in tech sector
  • Understanding of the tech sector job market for business professionals
  • Experience in bringing on new accounts and customers.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to set priorities and coordinate ongoing activities in parallel.
  • Ability to communicate and influence with tact and diplomacy to a wide range of internal and external constituents.
  • Ability to operate effectively and independently in a fast -paced environment
