The general model for the Faculty Coach role is one of outreach; and individual 1:1 coaching. With respect to outreach, the Faculty Coach will be assigned a cohort of faculty for the upcoming academic term and is expected to establish a professional relationship with each faculty member, offering assistance orienting them to teaching in Zoom. Additionally, the Faculty Coach will check in with each faculty member periodically to offer support and/or troubleshoot as needed. The Faculty Coach will participate in synchronous virtual workshops for clusters of faculty to help orient them to the Zoom environment. These workshops are coordinated by the Vice President for Teaching and Learning, and may be facilitated by her or by an experienced Faculty Coach.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Meet with each faculty member upon request at a mutually agreeable time to help develop faculty skill in teaching in the Zoom environment. Assistance could involve “how to” in Zoom (create break out groups for example), and/or strategies for organizing the time to achieve the learning objectives. Faculty will have been provided with a facilitation guide that has suggestions from the instructional design team about each live session’s agenda.
  • Upon request, attend the faculty member’s live session as a “shadow” (camera and microphone off) to observe, provide suggestions via private chat if desired, and assist the faculty member in navigating the Zoom experience.
  • Upon request, debrief the live class experience with the faculty member, offering suggestions and support.
  • Upon request, troubleshoot teaching challenges that emerge during the term, strategizing how to present specific content, or manage a student issue.
  • Provide a summary of contacts with faculty and a preliminary assessment of the degree of success in achieving the goals, with any necessary recommendations for how we can strengthen the onboarding process.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Excitement and creativity about the potential of online learning
  • At least a master's degree in a related field, and preferably a doctoral degree
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and principles of effective instruction
  • Experience teaching a minimum of 3 online courses, specifically in online settings that use synchronous classes
  • Ability to assess situations to determine appropriate coaching interventions
  • A can-do attitude. This is a start-up, which means you must be able to embrace uncertainty with poise
  • A team mentality ‒ as a key member of Noodle Partners team, you’ve got to put the needs of the team first, at every turn
