Share Local Media, or SLM, is a rapidly growing startup reimagining the world of offline marketing for tech and e-commerce companies. We started as e-commerce marketers ourselves, and launched SLM with a goal of turning direct mail into a high performing, scalable channel for a digitally native client set. To do so, we’ve taken an inputs based-approach to the space, and re-engineered the channel from the ground up to make it easier to test, faster to execute, more measurable, and ultimately, more effective for e-commerce and tech clients of all types.
So what does SLM actually do? We’re a full-service direct mail agency, media program operator, and technology platform, serving some of your favorite e-commerce and tech brands (think Casper, Lyft, Grubhub, etc.). We live and breathe direct response marketing, and strive to delight clients with high performing campaigns built around fast, data-driven client service, and premium, unique branding.

About the role
We are looking for our first HR hire at SLM. We consider our people to be our greatest advantage as a company and a key differentiator for us, and thus, have historically put in a good deal of time and effort into ensuring that we have good informal people management processes, well defined career paths, competitive benefits, fair and equitable compensation, etc.
That said, we are at 65+ employees and continuing to grow quickly, and would love to bring on a passionate HR professional to formalize many of our processes, implement best practices across a range of HR areas, and ultimately help us with our next stage of growth. You’ll be empowered to think strategically about all aspects of people management, including but not limited to organizational design, employee engagement and retention, talent development, and performance management. This role will report directly to the CEO and work closely with all major team leads.
Basic responsibilities
- Work with team leaders in planning and facilitating onboarding, performance management, reviews, training, compensation leveling, and other important HR-related company processes
- Work closely with CEO, CTO, GM, and team leads to set direction and plan all future HR strategy
- Manage employee relations and PMP
- Advise and manage benefits, including 401K, health benefits, and any additional perks/benefits offered
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
- Analyze and report on trends in the business, recommending strategic, proactive methods to increase employee engagement and retention
Qualifications
- 4+ years of of HR experience, preferably in a startup environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong sense of urgency, self-motivated, and takes initiative
- Creative, resourceful problem solver with excellent teamwork skills
- The ability to work independently and manage relationships
- A plus: experience with PEO’s, supporting employees across multiple states and in remote teams
