About the Role
We are looking for a Payroll + Benefits Specialist who will be responsible for maintaining, processing and operating Common’s payroll + benefits function.  This includes bi-weekly payroll runs, benefits administration, HRIS management, commission payments, bonuses, 401k administration and managing non-exempt timesheets.  This position will be the first in-house payroll + benefits function at Common and will assist in implementing a variety of payroll practices and changes which will help the Company scale. A successful candidate will have a strong attention to detail and will ensure compliance with IRS, DOL, federal, state, and local regulations with a focus on clarity and accuracy.
 

What You Will Be Doing
You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of payroll and benefits administration.  Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Review + run bi-weekly payroll for all employees (exempt and non-exempt) including any bonuses/commissions, salary adjustments, and other payroll changes
  • Maintain our HRIS by updating data from various sources including new hire data, employee changes, promotions and terminations
  • Ensure all bonuses and commissions are accurate and on-time for various departments and paid in accordance with relevant compensation plans
  • Be the main point of contact for all benefits and payroll related questions
  • Work with People Operations and Finance to develop processes and ad-hoc reporting requests
  • Provide monthly analysis and report on people + payroll related metrics
  • Open new SUI and tax accounts as we open in new jurisdictions
  • Assist with compliance by setting up new pay and compliance rules in our payroll system
  • Work closely with our 401k provider to ensure proper compliance and reporting is completed in a timely manner
  • Assist with Open Enrollment communication and rollout on an annual basis
  • Assist People Operations with additional projects and responsibilities on an as needed basis 

What You Have

  • BA/BS Degree
  • A scrappy and resourceful problem-solving mindset

  • Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse employee base
  • The desire to learn, develop existing skill set, and take on more responsibility
  • Understanding of US labor and payroll law, tax and compliance, federal and state regulations, and filing and compliance requirements
  • Ability to maintain a high level of judgment and discretion in handling confidential information

Additional Nice to Haves

  • Experience working with UltiPro (Ultimate Systems)
  • Familiarity with Google Drive
  • Working knowledge of employee benefits + 401K
  • Experience working with non-exempt employees
  • Experience in working for multi-jurisdictional employer
