At Teachable, we build products that transform the experience and know-how of independent professionals into thriving online businesses. We believe shared knowledge has the power to change lives, and our mission is to enable people to share what they know.
Teachable has built a diverse team of nearly 150 employees based in our headquarters in New York and our second office in Durham, North Carolina. We continue to grow aggressively and are looking for a VP People to join our Executive team. The VP People will be responsible for developing and implementing programs that help us scale our employee base, foster a culture of diversity, growth and engagement and align our employees’ unique talents with positive business outcomes.
What You'll Do:
- Compensation and Benefits Management: You will own the development and management of our compensation systems, including pay structures, performance management, and benefits programs. As we become a larger and increasingly more geographically diverse company, you will ensure that our compensation programs and resources evolve and align accordingly
- Diversity and Inclusion: Diversity, safety, inclusion and empathy are core elements of our culture. In partnership with our Employee Resource Groups and the Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Committee, the VP People develops thoughtful programs and forums to ensure that Teachable is consistently and evocatively adhering to these values
- Learning and Development: By our very mission, we encourage the sharing of knowledge and seek to facilitate growth and development for all employees. You will lead the creation of programs that prepare employees across Teachable to grow their responsibilities alongside the company’s growth
- Recruiting: We expect our headcount to surpass 175 by year-end and to increase to more than 200 employees in 2021. Growth will occur both in our existing offices as well as in new geographic locations. As VP People, you will be responsible for growing the Recruiting team and related tools and systems to optimize candidate experience and new hire success rates
- Compliance: Working with our Legal and Compliance team, and outside resources as needed, you will ensure that Teachable establishes the procedures and infrastructure necessary to remain compliant with all employment laws
- Culture and Engagement: Act as a key leader in refining, evolving and driving our culture. Maintain an open door to individuals across all levels of the organization to help understand and resolve challenges that may arise. You will ensure that engagement is measured and spearhead the development of frameworks that reinforce our core values, including transparency, humility and diversity
- Facilities Management: Along with a dedicated facilities lead, oversee the day-to-day management of our NY office and ensure that employee experience is consistent across all locations. Provide leadership and guidance in developing and supporting a remote workforce, including those working from home, in line with the needs and opportunities of the business.
- Cross-Functional Partnerships: Serve as an advisor, peer, and subject matter expert to other members of the Executive team and to employees across the organization. In addition, you will partner with the Talents team at Hotmart, our corporate sibling with operations primarily in Brazil
- Communications and Leadership: Bring clear, consistent and principled people management and communications practices to bear on a range of matters. Serve as role model to others in ensuring a safe, compliant, welcoming and values-driven environment
Who You Are:
- 8+ years of experience in people-focused roles in the private sector
- Have led the People function in at least one start-up/growth organization where programs and processes had to be built “from scratch;” also have People-related experience within a more mature, operationalized organization
- Able to execute on today’s challenges while maintaining a forward-thinking mindset around where we’ll be six months, a year, and several years from now
- Demonstrated experience and expertise in establishing organizational design, performance management and compensation structures as well as benefits packages, including equity
- Deep passion for people and culture, and a strong instinct for managing and developing talent
- Data-driven leader who can connect workforce and business outcomes
- Have a high degree of integrity and can instill confidence as an advisor and partner
- Embrace technology-driven approaches and can manage the implementation and deployment of complex technical solutions, especially in regards to recruiting and talent management
