One of our key company objectives is to know the most about what happens on blockchains and the research team plays an instrumental role in proving this to the public and our customers. The research team is focused on producing original cutting edge research related to trends in the cryptocurrency ecosystem. We do this by organising the world’s blockchain data and making it accessible and useful to our customers and audiences. While we primarily work with blockchain level data, we also use other open-source intelligence and third-party data sources to stay on top of market trends and changes in criminal activity. We are looking for a data intern who loves digging into data, thinking creatively about hypotheses, building new methodologies, and finding insights.

The ideal candidate for this position will be someone who is comfortable approaching large datasets with a set of questions and hypotheses. They will thrive when given a messy dataset and keep research questions in mind while working with constantly changing and live data. The intern will be working on research that goes into our annual Crypto Crime Report as well as working on data requests on an ad hoc basis for journalists or customers.

At the end of your internship, you’ll know you were successful if you achieved the following…

  • Participate in the creation of Crime reports
  • Collaborate in the execution of Webinars
  • Gain experience in Open-ended research questions
  • Grow knowledge around cryptocurrency ecosystem
  • Get exposed to criminal activity data
  • Working and knowing the startup environment
  • Involvement with Gov and private sectors

A background like this helps:

  • Coursework in Economics and Statistics
  • Python, SQL, data analytics, experience working with large datasets, experience querying APIs
  • You have done full research projects from start to finish, and might even have a publication to show for it!
  • Enjoys finding creative ways to visualize data and present findings
  • Most importantly, you are a self-starter. You don’t need to be told what to do and have an insatiable curiosity for learning about new things. You find yourself going down rabbit holes often and are a critical thinker.

Preferred but not essential

  • Previous experience researching criminal activity
  • Machine learning (again - not essential, but cool!!)
  • Stata and running those regressions!
  • Network research (including gephi)

You belong here.
