JW Player is looking for a Video Software Engineering Intern to join our Media Services team. The role will be responsible for researching, developing, and maintaining software modules related to processing and optimization of videos.

In this role you will do some or all of the following:

• Explore video quality analysis metrics (e.g. SSIM or VMAF)
• Create fine-tuned video compression profiles using open-source video processing tools, including FFmpeg, Libav and other similar tools to improve quality for H.264 and AAC encoded files
• Learn about streaming delivery types (HLS, MPEG-DASH)
• Build video transcoding workflows, optimize video encoding profiles, and streamline the performance of the company’s proprietary video processing engine
• Research software modules related to processing and optimization of a large number of incoming video files
• Maintain implemented software modules to ensure media services workflows are optimal and continually innovative
• Upgrade our current architecture to take advantage of the latest features available in FFmpeg and associated libraries
• Optimize transcode profiles to play well everywhere, also when delivered through HLS or DASH
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics and Communication or a related computer vision video field 
• Knowledge of, or interest in learning more about video and image standards and codec libraries, including H.264, H.263, MPEG4, JPEG, PNG, FFmpeg, libjpeg, libx264;
• Experience developing video processing algorithms for Keyframe extraction and scene change detection; and
• Proficiency in Python, C, C++, C# or similar programming language
• Experience debugging with Unix/Linux
