Associate General Counsel

We’re looking for an Associate General Counsel, IP Litigation & Transactions to join Snap Inc! As a member of the Legal team, you’ll lead all aspects of Snap’s complex patent litigation matters and pre-litigation patent threats. Using your experience and creativity, you’ll favorably resolve claims – and reduce the risk of claims -- for a company that’s rapidly growing into a wide range of groundbreaking product spaces. You will also advise M&A and commercial teams on IP and indemnification provisions in fast-paced transactions, and you’ll handle a wide range of other litigation and patent issues, helping Snap mitigate risk as it builds out partnerships around the world.
What you’ll do:
Lead all patent litigation matters, including developing strategic approaches to litigation defense; selecting and managing outside counsel and vendors; overseeing witness prep for depositions, hearings and trial; orchestrating development of briefs and pleadings; and handling litigation costs and budgets.
Handle all pre-litigation patent threats, from initial analysis and response through strategic approach and resolution.
Collaborate with legal colleagues to defend other IP and civil litigation as appropriate.
Advise senior management on litigation strategy and risk mitigation.
Negotiate and draft sophisticated patent settlement and license agreements.
Provide support in M&A and other commercial transactions, including developing and negotiating IP terms and indemnification provisions and assisting with IP due diligence.
Advise on membership in risk-mitigation entities.
Potentially lead and grow a team.
Travel occasionally as needed to handle litigation defense and other IP issues for a growing multinational business operation.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Experience with technological areas including software, business processes, and hardware.
Patent analysis skills, including developing non-infringement and invalidity positions.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with respect to IP and indemnity provisions in corporate transactions.
Consistent excellent judgment, critical thinking, and ability to apply legal knowledge to help build practical business solutions.
Strong negotiation, communication, and organization skills.
Acute attention to detail, business-friendly, phenomenal teammate, with an ability to accommodate tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Executive presence and a leadership style that projects confidence and will earn the respect of Snap executives, business teams, and engineering and product teams.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field of study, or equivalent years of experience.
Juris Doctor degree
8+ years of patent litigation experience in-house at a company or a combination of law firm and in-house experience, including experience negotiating settlements.
Active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
Preferred Qualifications:
Admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
In-house experience running patent litigation and litigation budgets.
Experience advising on IP and indemnity provisions in M&A and corporate transactions.
Experience advising C-suite on strategy and recommendations.
Trial experience.
Experience in a meaningful leadership and management role.
