Director of AML Compliance

Reporting to our VP of Compliance, the Director of AML Compliance will be responsible for the execution of Stash’s enterprise-wide Anti-Money Laundering (“AML”) and government sanctions compliance program. In this role, you'll provide subject matter expertise with regard to regulatory analysis, transaction surveillance, KYC, sanctions screening, surveillance development, AML policies and procedures, and the implementation of technology solutions.
This hire will also provide guidance to key stakeholders on enhanced due diligence and government sanctions screening as well as surveillance and investigations designed to identify potential terrorist financing, money laundering, and other suspicious activity. What you'll do:
- Develop and manage AML compliance monitoring coverage leading the expansion of the program enterprise-wide to ensure appropriate business line and regulatory coverage
- Liaise with key stakeholders to design and execute monitoring activities to detect gaps, issues, and process improvements, promoting the benefits of Stash’s monitoring and surveillance programs
- Review effectiveness of monitoring processes and tools, as well as drive improvements to ensure high-quality monitoring and surveillance activities, results, and compliance with laws, rules, and regulations
- Monitor applicable regulatory changes and provide effective change management to address such changes, and stay abreast of new products, technologies, and applications as well as their implications for Stash
- Maintain a current and strong understanding of developments in money laundering and terrorist financing, industry best practices, criminal typologies and schemes, and emerging trends
- Provide policy-level guidance on Stash’s Client Identification Program (CIP), client onboarding escalation processes, and high-risk account remediation to ensure compliance with AML policy and regulation
- Conduct annual and periodic training of employees on AML regulation and firm policy including subjects such as currency transaction reporting, suspicious activity reporting, CIP, and OFAC
What we're looking for:
- 8 years of prior AML, counter-terrorism, anti-bribery and/or anti-fraud experience in consumer financial services
- Prior experience with and knowledge of retail banking and investment products and services
- Extensive knowledge of the financial services industry as it relates to BSA/AML, KYC operations, and regulations
- Ability to communicate Compliance requirements for consumption by software development and product management teams
- Understanding of the opportunities and challenges in the digital finance sector, particularly as they relate to AML and Fraud
- Ability to work independently and remain team-oriented
- Knowledge of the current AML risk management technology/vendors on the market
- Excellent interpersonal skills
