Motivate is seeking an entrepreneurial in-house counsel with a strong background in employment law to bring a business-minded legal perspective to a fast growing company.

About the role

You will manage a broad range of general corporate and commercial matters, including subcontractor agreements, supply contracts, real estate leases, MSAs, and insurance and other risk management issues.  You will also work closely with the company’s People team on all aspects of day-to-day employment-related matters, including but not limited to hiring and termination issues, compensation and benefits, leaves of absence and accommodations, privacy, diversity, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, leaves of absence, wage and hour issues, restrictive covenants, employee investigations, implementation of policies and procedures and compliance. As the “backbone” of our business, you will report to the CEO and be a key member of Motivate’s leadership team, in a fast-paced, collaborative, service-oriented environment, where flexibility and ability to achieve results are valued.

About You

• J.D. from an ABA accredited law school and NY state bar admission with 5+ years of legal experience (mix of inhouse and law firm preferred)

• Strong employment law background (labor law experience a plus)

• Superior judgment and common sense, who can be a trusted advisor to the CEO and a key partner in driving the business strategy

• Highly organized, detail oriented, collaborative team player, who thrives in a dynamic fast-paced environment

• Ability to manage competing demands, shifting priorities and interests of multiple stakeholders

• Demonstrated ability to take ownership with strong work ethic and follow-through skills

• Excellent leadership and communication skills to drive results across a wide range of stakeholders, from data scientists to sales executives to external consultants

• Sound business judgment, a high degree of integrity and objectivity, innovation in approaching business challenges, and the ability to translate strategy into operating results
