Head of Litigation & Portfolio Legal Risk
The ideal candidate is a business-minded litigator who understands business objectives and helps balance legal investment risks under tight deadlines. This person must have experience with regulators and, ideally will have had experience with asset recovery work. This person is also a creative problem-solver, a self-starter with a great attitude and a team player who is collaborative and yet comfortable making decisions. This position will report into our General Counsel.

You are a battle-tested litigator and crisis manager, with a passion for solving tough problems, and a strong record of expertly navigating the intersections of legal, communications and mission-driven strategic objectives. You will work closely with internal and external teams on all pre-litigation disputes, workouts and escalated investor matters and you will oversee litigations worldwide.
Responsibilities:
- Oversight of a variety of litigation matters and other contentious matters
- Manage litigation budget with the General Counsel and oversee fund reimbursements
- Manage responses to government inquiries and related investigations
- Respond to third party subpoenas
- Review and revise court submissions to ensure accuracy & alignment with strategy and messaging
- Work with Investor Relations team on all investor escalation matters and sensitive communications
- Work closely with the Director of Portfolio Management, Restructuring/Workouts and other cross functional teams to drive enterprise risk management strategies
- Advise Investment Committees on legal risks
- Advise management team on recommended changes to Company policies to minimize legal risks in various regulatory environments
- Work with Portfolio Management and Investor Relations teams reporting on loan performance and updates on assets under management
- Advise on corporate governance, best practices of legal, investment risk management & compliance matters broadly
- Work with Marketing Team on PR and communications on highly sensitive issues
- Advise management on enterprise and reputational risk issues for the organization
- Assist Finance with procurement and monitoring of D&O, E&O and other insurances for the organization
- Support Finance Team with Audits and Fund Reporting
Qualifications
- JD degree with strong academic credentials
- 10+ years’ experience as a litigator at a major law firm or in-house legal department with experience in securities law, regulatory investigations, Securities Exchange Commission, federal and state regulators as well as other government agencies
- Member in good standing of the New York state bar
- Strong experience with complex civil matters, securities and shareholder litigation, securities regulation and enforcement, corporate investigations
- Ability to plan, execute and monitor progress, take action when necessary to address challenging situations
- Excellent business judgment and ability to assess legal risk while also thinking strategically and providing practical advice
- Strong work ethic and ability to multitask, prioritize and follow through on numerous projects simultaneously
- Exceptional communication, analytical and writing skills
- Must be a proactive, team player who is willing to pitch in where needed in a fast-paced, growing company
- Ability and desire to work autonomously
- Excellent organizational skills; detail oriented
