Legal Operations Manager

Flatiron’s Legal, Privacy & Compliance team practices at the intersection of healthcare, research and technology. We provide legal and strategic support across the entire company. We work efficiently to drive our business forward while maintaining high standards for professionalism and compliance.

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our growing Legal, Privacy & Compliance team as the Legal Operations Manager. The position will work closely with the team and business stakeholders at all levels of the company. As our Legal Operations Manager, you will be key in creating processes and practices to improve day-to-day efficiency and effectiveness and facilitate change.

This is role involves managing and supporting projects across the full range of subject matter supported by the Legal, Privacy & Compliance team. You must be able to adapt to changing priorities and business needs, and must be proactive in identifying areas of need and generating/implementing action plans. Through these responsibilities, you’ll have direct impact on our goal to increase the efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainability of the Legal, Privacy & Compliance team.

Responsibilities

  • Identify process improvement opportunities by developing a firm understanding of department workflows, best practices, and current bottlenecks
  • Define and drive strategic and operational initiatives with on-time and on-budget results
  • Report on key operational and substantive metrics for the department that will better inform decision-making
  • Identify and implement legal department tools to streamline new or existing practices, as well as manage design, rollout, and training for new systems (e.g., contract management system)
  • Develop knowledge management systems and practices so as to ensure better communications within the department as well as more efficient client advising
  • Develop and enforce processes and policies to manage outside counsel usage and spend
  • Assist with budget matters and optimizing workflows within the legal department
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including sales, support, service, business development, regulatory, IT, and finance as well as well as various business units
  • Provide project management support for key initiatives supported by the Legal, Privacy & Compliance team
  • Coordinate Legal, Privacy & Compliance team communications, meetings and events
  • Provide limited administrative support (e.g., expense reporting, scheduling meetings, travel planning)

About you

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 3+ years of work experience
  • Process-oriented with ability to identify workflow gaps or issues
  • Willingness to learn quickly and dig into details
  • Ability to use data to understand workflows and assess operational effectiveness
  • Action and results oriented, with demonstrated ability to make things happen
  • Independent, analytical and creative thinker
  • Prior experience developing playbooks and policies
  • Demonstrated ability to independently move projects forward by gaining support needed from others while working in a cross-functional role
  • Proven track record of collaborating with cross-functional groups (e.g., Finance, Sales, IT, Products) to set objectives and produce meaningful results
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and successfully manage multiple deadlines
  • Sound judgment, discretion, and ability to properly handle confidential and sensitive information
  • Able to sort through details while staying focused on the big picture

Bonus Points

  • Experience in developing, implementing, and using legal department technology solutions (e.g., e-billing and matter management, G-suite programs (Gmail, Google docs, etc.) Docusign e-signature)
  • Passionate about our mission to improve healthcare through technology
  • Corporate legal department, management consulting, or tech experience
  • Experience in a customer support role
