Meeting your future team:

The Collibra Legal team is looking for an experienced Senior Privacy Counsel to help manage its growing privacy, data protection and security-related legal and compliance initiatives. Working collaboratively with other departments globally, the Senior Privacy Counsel will be responsible for managing a broad scope of privacy compliance activities, including monitoring new developments in privacy-related legislation, pushing the company to dive deeper into its current privacy practices, and helping the Product and Engineering teams navigate privacy compliance as they continue to innovate in the data intelligence space.  As a data intelligence company, Collibra prides itself on its privacy compliance practices.  The candidate should be looking for ways to continue to innovate with respect to Collibra’s privacy compliance program and practices, and follow through with  their implementation. 

Reporting directly to the Associate General Counsel - IP Product and Privacy, the ideal candidate is a business-focused, service-oriented attorney who can appropriately balance Collibra’s rapid growth trajectory and privacy compliance considerations under tight deadlines. 

The Senior Privacy Counsel at Collibra is responsible for:

  • Developing and maintaining subject matter expertise in areas of data use and protection laws within the global privacy landscape.
  • Enabling Collibra to maintain its rapid pace of innovation in data intelligence, while remaining privacy compliant.
  • Developing and evangelizing new external and internal policies, transfer mechanisms and similar documentation related to Collibra’s personal data use.
  • Training employee teams on data protection requirements, as appropriate. 
  • Managing Collibra’s day to day privacy compliance operations.

You have:

  • 5-7 years relevant general privacy related experience, at least a material portion of which has been at a nationally or internationally recognized law firm with a robust privacy practice.
  • Intimate knowledge of the GDPR and CCPA as well as general awareness of additional emerging privacy regulations.
  • An in-depth understanding of the necessary pieces of a robust privacy compliance program, including appropriate privacy related policies, transfer mechanisms, data mapping, privacy impact assessments, legitimate interest assessments, data protection impact assessments and data transfer impact assessments.
  • Familiarity with the technical, logistical and operational measures required to maintain privacy compliance.
  • A Juris Doctor (J.D.) and admission in good standing to one state bar or equivalent.

You have the ability and desire to:

  • Develop close working relationships with data scientists, researchers, engineers, product developers and marketing professionals and become a trusted source on product related privacy matters.
  • Resolve privacy compliance issues practicably by weighing rigid regulatory frameworks against the realities of B2B SaaS industry practices.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely with colleagues at all levels of the Company.
  • Expand the scope of your practice beyond your primary responsibilities to work on additional legal matters that arise from the operations of a dynamic and fast-growing global company.
  • Organize, prioritize and manage deadlines in a fast-paced and demanding work environment

Measuring Success:

  • Within the first month, gain a general understanding of Collibra’s existing privacy program, practices and areas that warrant expansion;
  • Within the first three months, develop productive, working relationships with legal and non-legal colleagues and demonstrated creative problem solving skills; and
  • Within the first six months, embark on multiple key privacy initiatives that will materially expand Collibra’s privacy program.
