About the People Team

Kickstarter’s culture and people drive our mission to bring creative projects to life. The People Operations team is the integral function charged with ensuring that we attract, develop, and create fulfilling experiences for the talented people who make up our ~130-person organization.

About the Role

Kickstarter is currently seeking an experienced Manager of People Operations to oversee and manage the People Ops side of our People team. (The other sides include Workplace Experience and Talent.)

Your primary responsibility will be to research and make decisions about our benefits, compliance, HR policies, and learning & development practices. There may be other ad hoc responsibilities across Talent Acquisition and Workplace Experience, depending on needs and capacity.

Our ideal teammate quickly gains credibility with all kinds of people; avidly seeks out and innovates on best-practice People Ops approaches; is self-directed and results-driven; cares deeply about their impact on people; and is a strong manager. They will oversee 1-2 members of the People team and will report to the Head of People.

What You'll Do

  • Build out our career development paths and processes -- as devised in collaboration with the Head of People and the other Execs -- including leveling and compensation components, that are easy to understand and help employees know where they are going.
  • Oversee and iterate on a performance management system that helps employees get candid feedback on their performance and gets the right people in the right positions.
  • Monitor employee engagement across the organization; identify opportunity and problem areas; drive resolution and improvement.
  • Manage team members whose roles are to research, assess, and integrate/implement employee benefits solutions and learning/development initiatives. Through these individuals, implement a People dashboard, set out employment policies, etc.
  • Act as a partner to senior level managers across the organization to help them think through the development of their teams, including role-specific training, coaching, reorganization, analysis of spans and layers, etc.
  • Continuously improve on our processes, tapping into innovative and new ways of doing things from adjacent/analogous industries or functions.

What You'll Bring and Who You Are

  • 4-5 years of People/HR experience in a fast-paced environment. 1-2 years of management experience.
  • Previous experience developing and rolling out career ladders, performance appraisals, development plans, coaching employees, benefits/compensation.
  • Outstanding communication skills, verbal and written. History of collaborating with senior leaders on difficult conversations/topics.
  • Strong self-management, drive, and organization.
  • Flexibility and chill vibes under pressure, and a creative approach to solving problems.
  • Excellent judgment of people’s motivations, potential, and fit. Knowing what’s needed versus what’s wanted.
  • Problem-solving versatility across qualitative and quantitative questions.
  • Humility and empathy.
  • Passion for the Kickstarter mission and charter
