About Petal and Prism Data

Prism Data is a next-generation transaction intelligence platform that helps businesses serve more customers, build better products, and make smarter decisions. Our technology takes raw financial transaction data and transforms it into actionable insights and scores to better understand a consumer’s credit risk, identity, income and more, all via API.

Prism was launched in 2021 by Petal, which pioneered the use of automated cash flow underwriting in consumer credit over 5 years ago, as a means of providing consumers, especially those underserved by the mainstream financial system, access to safe and affordable credit.

Prism is emerging from a successful private beta in 2021. We're hiring our first "core team" to commercialize the solution and expand access to businesses broadly.

We're looking for people with kindness, positivity, and integrity. You're encouraged to apply even if your experience doesn't precisely match the job description. Your skills and potential will stand out—and set you apart—especially if your career has taken some extraordinary twists and turns. We welcome diverse perspectives from people who think rigorously and aren't afraid to challenge assumptions.

The Partnerships and Business Development role

We launched our private beta in April 2021 and are ready to accelerate Prism’s growth with your help. As a Senior Business Development Associate (and first business hire!), you’ll own the end-to-end sales cycle and ongoing partner relationship management. This includes sourcing prospects, educating them on Prism Data’s solutions to their business challenges, negotiating key partnerships, onboarding and maintaining partner relationships, and surfacing partner needs and ideas to the product team.

If you’re entrepreneurial, scrappy, and interested in working at a mission driven company building the financial system of the future... apply below!

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the sales, contracting, due diligence, upfront relationship management with all prospects and partners, by working cross functionally with product, engineering, data science, risk, and operations.
  • Source partnership and client opportunities across a variety of industries, including traditional financial services, fintech, real estate, insurance and more. Educate prospects on the potential use cases for Prism Data’s API and product offerings.
  • Organize our lead generation and management platform and build a scalable and systematic way to keep track of all leads and partners. Manage the pipeline through the sales process, keeping track of various workstreams and creating accountability internally to support your efforts.
  • Create the feedback loop between prospects, clients, and internal teams to continuously improve Prism’s product offerings, messaging, and onboarding materials and documentation.
  • Determine business development success metrics and create systems to monitor and track performance, including partner success and happiness.
  • Alongside the GM, be the ‘face’ of Prism Data to prospects and, to some extent, signed partners, with support from Customer Success.
  • Represent Prism Data at business networking functions, conferences, and events, and seek out opportunities to increase exposure.
  • Ultimately, your success will be determined by the quantity and quality of Prism partnerships, as well as their satisfaction and retention.

Characteristics of a successful candidate:

  • 7+ years of experience working in fast-paced business development, partnership, sales, or professional-services environments.
  • 5+ years in business development and/or partnerships, ideally at a SaaS and/or fintech company. Track record of success working with enterprise accounts and closing high value contracts.
  • Passionate about Prism’s mission, a ‘constantly learning’ mentality, and deep knowledge of financial industry trends, news, and knowledge
  • Entrepreneurial and independent with exceptional problem solving and strategic thinking skills able to take initiatives from idea to impact; razor-sharp focus on results.
  • Consultative sales approach with emphasis on strong discovery skills, and the ability to close business while growing current clients.
  • Strong prospecting, account mapping, objection handling, planning, and closing skills, including familiarity with relevant tools.
  • Experienced in SaaS ecosystems with an understanding of the value and mechanics of APIs and integration development; can effectively partner with technical leaders both internally and externally.
  •  Has a strong attention to detail paired with the ability to multitask and coordinate several complex tasks simultaneously.
  • Experience with scaling out a function and having built a team is helpful.
  • Strong verbal communication and excellent writing skills.
  • Extensive professional network in the banks/credit unions/fintech/insurance/real estate industries is a major plus!
  • Knowledge of procurement/purchasing cycles is also a plus!

We are an equal opportunity employer, and we are committed to building a team culture that celebrates diversity and inclusion. We’re proud to be different, together.

Note: title and compensation will be flexible and based on candidates experience. Do not hesitate to apply if you’re interested in Prism!

An Insider's view of Petal

What's something quirky about your company?

At Petal we celebrate our big wins with an unlikely pairing of Popeyes and Prosecco. The origin story remains a mystery — but if we accomplish something really big you can bet that delicious fried chicken and bubbles are on the horizon.

Liza

Talent, Senior Manager

What's the biggest problem your team is solving?

On the Payments team, we're working to increase the speed of payments processing for our members. This way we can deliver a real-time experience, reduce the likelihood of payment reversals, and allow faster access to a member's available credit.

Rohini

Senior Product Manager II

How has your career grown since starting at the company?

I started at Petal as a Credit Ops Analyst. Since then, I’ve had the chance to learn from industry experts, contribute to other sectors of the company, and further pursue my passions. I now have the privilege of leading the department where I got my start. Petal has allowed me to zero in on my purpose and continues to advocate for my development.

Allen

Risk Ops Manager

How do you make yourself accessible to the rest of the team?

Being accessible means that folks have multiple channels to engage with me & contribute ideas, give feedback, influence direction, & seek information. A few channels I use include office hours, monthly AMA's, Tech town halls, & ad-hoc check-ins. It means listening actively, assuming positive intent, asking constructive questions, & trusting others.

John

VP Engineering

How do you collaborate with other teams in the company?

As a PM, I work on delivering an engaging and frictionless app experience for users as they progress on their credit building journey. One of my favorite aspects of Petal’s culture is the egoless, team-first atmosphere that allows Petalians across functions ranging from Compliance to Design to make great things happen for our users together.
