ABOUT THE TEAM AND ROLE

As theSkimm’s Communications Manager, you will create and execute communications strategies to promote theSkimm brand. You have a passion for creative storytelling and an innovative approach to communications, thinking outside the box and embracing non-traditional PR channels. You will manage press relations, draft materials, staff interviews, and maintain comprehensive media lists. You have the ability to be thoughtful and strategic while simultaneously executing and producing results in a fast-paced environment.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

• Leveraging non-traditional press channels and strategic influencer engagement to increase brand awareness
• Producing proactive and dynamic pitches to elevate theSkimm brand and supporting key company initiatives, content, and business objectives
• Drafting high quality written material, press releases, pitches, messaging, Q&As, and briefings to support press interviews
• Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with editors, reporters, and producers across consumer and business press
• Maintaining press contacts and clips, thought leadership opportunities, and award submission calendars
• Assisting on ad-hoc special projects and supporting internal communications
• Working cross-functionally with internal teams to support content, campaigns, and events

WHAT WILL SET YOU UP FOR SUCCESS

• 3-5 years of experience in public relations or communications; agency experience a plus  
• Strong writing skills and an eye for detail
• Keen understanding of the media landscape
• Self-starter attitude with a demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple projects under pressure
• Bachelor's degree
