Your strongest skills are writing and editing. But there’s a good reason you’re not applying to work in traditional publishing. You’re as interested in business and marketing as you are in journalism and storytelling. Maybe you studied the social sciences or humanities in college. Maybe science or engineering. The key is that you have the writing chops to be a thoughtful, discerning editor—with some innate gumption to coach more senior colleagues on their writing.

At Betterment you will get to:

  • Drive our daily editorial calendar process, coordinating our team of internal writers, designers, and subject matter experts to create content and publish it on schedule.
  • Manage and edit articles from start to finish with the support and guidance of marketing and customer insights professionals.
  • Develop new editorial ideas and contribute to the priorities of the editorial calendar, including commentary, how-to explainer pieces, and advocacy editorials.
  • Coordinate work among expert writers at Betterment; you’ll have to keep writing projects on timeline and deadlines carried out to be successful.
  • Use your strong bias toward action to increase content output and publication frequency at Betterment, building up a focused habit of new article creation.
  • Learn from and work with every team at Betterment, including Marketing, Customer Experience, Investing & Advice, Engineering, Product, and Design.
  • Develop skills in search engine optimization (SEO), earned media writing, CRM strategy, marketing analytics, and conversion rate optimization (CRO).
  • Work with and get mentored by our content marketing lead, our brand team, our team of investing experts, and our customer insights team.
  • Utilize customer journey data and customer feedback to develop increasingly compelling content ideas.

You will be effective if you have:

  • Recently graduated or worked a few years, but you’re looking to get into content marketing in the fascinating space of financial advice and investing technology.
  • An integrative mindset that’s both analytical and also creative. People have called you a renaissance person, a polymath, and a whole-brain thinker.
  • Strong editing skills with a mind for process management and organization. You have an eye for quality work and creative thinking, but you might not consider yourself a creative.
  • Strong digital content skills, but you’re not a software engineer. You’ve used web content management systems (e.g. Wordpress), blogging platforms, and social media software; you also know HTML and CSS.
  • Willingness and ability to adapt your way of working to meet the needs of a diverse set of collaborators.
  • A clear philosophy of your own time management and project coordination approach.

Bonus points if you have:

  • Internship or work experience in content marketing at an agency, in tech, or in finance
  • An interesting story of building something—a project, organization, etc.—from the ground up with a small group of collaborators
  • Taken free online content marketing certifications, like the Inbound Marketing Certification.
  • Photo editing or basic design skills, even if you’ve learned in informal settings.
  • A strong interest in fostering community through work—building relationships beyond the task, cultivating an inclusive work environment, and challenging Betterment with new ideas and approaches.
