This role oversees the day-to-day creation and dissemination of original content across external platforms (Compass website, social media channels, brand advertising) as well as internal, content-driven initiatives.

You will be responsible for creating content—original stories, curated articles, commissioned photography, and videos—ideal for each environment, devising the optimal distribution strategy, and tracking the content’s impact across all networks.

You will help craft the brand story about Compass values and differentiation—its technology, growth, people, and services—alongside broader, lifestyle content that connects to our brand, visually and conceptually.

This role is crucial in helping build our audience—agents, buyers, sellers, renters, developers—and in defining the stories that create traffic flow to our website and drive everyday interest around our brand.

You will be a valued teammate in Compass’ Marketing department and Creative group, reporting to the Creative Director, collaborating with other members of our content studio, and bringing a compelling narrative and cohesive voice to our editorial, marketing, social media, and corporate outlets.

Responsibilities:

  • Write and edit original, on-brand copy that communicates our brand values on our owned channels, including the Compass website, magazine, boutique, social media, email newsletters, and brand advertising (print, digital, video, outdoor, events) for audiences including Compass clients, employees, and agents.
  • Research, commission, write, and edit articles that cover topics including real estate, entrepreneurship, engineering, data, architecture, interior design, urban planning, and technology.
  • Write, edit, report, and package materials with and for a wide circle of collaborators and divisions (regional marketing leaders, product, business development, communications, facilities, people & culture, finance).
  • Play an active role in agent marketing, design, production, and content meetings.
  • Brainstorm original, short-form video concepts.
  • Maintain our external content calendar that will be approved by the Creative Director and Head of Design and Marketing, including planning around major communication and branding initiatives.
  • Recommend improvements to the Compass site user experience based on internal insights and user feedback.
  • Support the Creative Director with reports that track site statistics and set goals around audience growth and content management.
  • Collaborate with the Communications department on the strategy for all major press announcements and ensure messaging is aligned across all channels, externally and internally.
  • Work with the Content Associate and Associate Manager, Social Media to assure the highest quality and creativity to the day-to-day content creation across all social media outlets.
  • Keep up-to-date on new social media outlets.

What We're Looking For:

  • 5-7 years working in editorial and/or original content creation at a brand, publication, or agency.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications, or Marketing.
  • An excellent oral and written communicator.
  • A keen design sensibility.
  • An eye for a Compass-relevant story, original or curated.
  • An arbiter of words and images and the ways they work together to tell a story.
  • Self-motivated, energetic, creative, resourceful, detail-oriented, and collaborative.
  • An ability to meet deadlines and gracefully juggle multiple projects.
  • An appreciation for real estate, technology, design, architecture, and interiors.
  • Experience at a startup.
  • Experience in the lifestyle and design industries.
  • Proficient knowledge of Google tools, Keynote, InDesign, Medium, digital tracking tools like Google Analytics or HubSpot, and content management platforms like Contentful.
  • Proficient at project management.
  • Strong strategic and analytical thinking skills.
  • Proficient presentation skills.
