Support Major League Baseball’s mission to strengthen and enhance communities in which we operate. The Coordinator will be a vital member of the Community Affairs department, which is directly responsible for the league’s community investments, nonprofit/NGO partnerships, disaster relief and employee volunteer engagement, supporting the league’s position in the community as a responsible corporate citizen. The Coordinator will directly support the department’s ability to provide best-in-class service and be a resource to the community affairs and foundation contacts across the 30 MLB Clubs.

  

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the Community Affairs Department including, but not limited to:
    • Community Outreach and Program Administration (i.e., Shred Hate, Scotts Field Refurbishment Program, GEICO Seats for Service, Summer Slugger)
    • Donations
    • Departmental Communication (internal and external)
  • Coordinate internally and with charitable partners, Clubs and sponsors, the planning, organizing, implementation and activation of year-round community and cause-related programs and events
  • Support the Manager of Community Affairs in department budget administration, including processing and tracking invoices
  • Interface with communications and marketing departments and MLB.com to coordinate event coverage and provide support for community web site and written materials (newsletters, brochures, press releases, etc.)  
  • Coordinate logistics related to the monthly league-wide MLB/Club Community conference calls
  • Responsible for administration of all ticketing and hospitality requirements and requests for both regular season and jewel events
  • Liaise with MLB Special Events and other departments on administrative, facility and equipment needs for department, seminars and conferences in the areas of transportation, hospitality and merchandise
  • Assist with employee volunteer events
  • Maintain relationships with program partners, external agencies and organizations

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform research to identify/corroborate legitimacy of community programs/partners
  • Represent department at internal and external meetings
  • Attend community/charity dinners and functions (potentially outside normal business hours)
  • Special projects as assigned
  • Perform administrative and other duties as required or assigned that support the overall objective of the position
  • Perform other related duties incidental to all work described herein.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 1-3 years related experience in community relations, communications, sports management, business and previous experience in planning and managing community programs and events
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of MLB staff and business units, Club officials, media partners, charitable partners and sponsors
  • Excellent negotiation, decision-making, and organizational skills
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent project and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Some physical work involved
  • Ability to travel and work weekends and extended hours (e.g., All-Star Game, World Series)
  • Knowledge of social media and emerging technologies
  • Prior volunteer work in the community is desired
  • Bilingual (Spanish) a plus
  • Graphic design skills a plus
